Department of Computer Science, University of Warwick
This is the Department of Computer Science at the University of Warwick, Coventry, UK. Purpose built in 2001 and has been a central feature of my life for a couple of years now!
Taken with my new Fuji S9500 at 28mm, f/8, ISO80 with a 20" shutter. Please let me know what you think!

Re: Department of Computer Science, University of Warwick
Very interesting photo. Did the camera 'naturally' produce the star flares in the highlights? If so, that's impressive. I haven't seen too many photos from this series of FUJI cameras yet. Like to see this one larger, have you consider posting it or anoter from your camera in the gallery?
Glad to know you are seemingly enjoying the FUJI S9500.
Looking forward to more!
Re: Department of Computer Science, University of Warwick
Yes, the starburst effect is off the camera! I do have 9mp copies, but they're a bit large to post on here, weighing in at four megabytes.
A reasonable amount of post processing was performed to get the colours I was after, but there was nothing done beyond levels and USM.
I am really enjoying the camera, it offers much more flexibility over my old S5000. Having a 28 - 300mm lens and a decent choice of ISO is great.
Thanks for the reply :)

Hindey,
I like the star effect for the lights, and the colors look great. Good job.

Oh, this is really nice. I love the starburst effect, and I love it even more with the reflection of the building in there too. :) Beautiful!

Re: Department of Computer Science, University of Warwick
it looks like you've got a bit of sensor dust though.... I also like the starburst effect.
Re: Department of Computer Science, University of Warwick
I really like the starburst effect. How did you do it?
Re: Department of Computer Science, University of Warwick
I assume the starburst effect is just a result of having a tiny aperture and a long exposure.
I hope I don't have sensor dust as it's a fixed lens camera! :) I do need to purchase some lens wipes though.
Thank you all for the kind words,
Chris
Re: Department of Computer Science, University of Warwick
Hi Chris,
the colours and tonal quality of this image are great, and there is a lovely calm, soft night feel to the image.
One suggestion might be to straighten up the verticals in photoshop, tends to really help the perspective in a building photo like this (works a bit like a tilt and shift lens) although you do lose some of the photo when straightening it...try it and see what you get.
cheers
anew.

anew,
I'll give it a go when I get some more time; the occupants of the building are really keeping me busy at the moment!

Chris
I have looked at this several times and for quite a bit of time and my conclusion is still not sure about it.
Don't get me wrong I like it especially the colours, but there is something that could make it better and I can't put my finger on it. I think it could be the two top windows on the left being too bright, or perhaps if the grass were horizontal or it could be the verticals.
If I figure it out I'l get back to you with the answer.
