    Claddagh River, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland

    Heyho,

Haven't posted anything in over 12 months, so here goes - a couple of shots with my new (6 months ago) Fuji S5500. I actually tried hard with these shots, and I'm reasonably happy - I think the water is a bit overexposed in the second one (bleached highlights), but what would I know... :-)

Interested in what other people think.

These are good attempts but they feel gritty like they have been sharpened. Of the two I prefer the first for the composition and the smoothness of the water and it's exposure.

The second is a bit too much to see and comes across cluttered because of all of the overhanging branches.

I would try a more overcast day or going out later so you can have plenty of time to leave the shutter open and get the water nice and smooth. Also simplify the composition to perhaps one set of rocks with water going around or an interesting little waterfall in the stream or from a clearing a step or two away from stream to show flow from one side to another. Just some ideas. A good try, keep working at it.

fatboy, I agree with C.L. (and your own assessment---bottom shot is a little overexposed or blown out). Compositionally, I like the top shot better.
