    Danijella is Broken [Image Attached]
Ok, so it's been a long time since I've posted a shot for a critique! I'm really liking this one, however, and I'm looking to get some input on it. The model is Danijella, and the shot is part of a 12-model series I've been working on entitled "Broken". They will be going into a gallery show in June. The scan here is of the darkroom print that will be in the show from Dani's set.
Any input would be appreciated. Film is Tri-X, 50mm, f5.6 or so.

    Let me ramble..

Interesting scene.. definitely surreal. The first thing that pops into my head is why is she wearing fishnet stockings like that when she's hopping around on crutches? Also, why is she on crutches? there's no cast on her foot. So as you can see there's several unanswered questions. Maybe that's part of story?

Photographic wise, I think it works but that the background graffiti grabs so much of the attention... I don't know. She is well lit from the waist up. One issue is how her legs and the bottom part of the photo in general fades into black.. you can't really see what's happening. Maybe if there was some (fake) blood on that clean white dress shirt... then it would add some serious drama (sure seems like someone's chasing her). Looking at it some more it even seems like there's a vignette around the image, just so dark on the sides.

What is saying to me is ''WOW''...Great contrast sharp as a tack. The vignette around the image works for me as it looks framed...I will have to try that film.

i agree with GB - thats one of the 1st things that came to me is that the boots blend into all the dark ground shadows. i think that if the ground/grass was a darker shade of grey instead of just darkness, to tell apart the boots it'd add a lil' more interest to it - i like her footing position.
The crutches and no sign of injury is a mystery to me - fish net is cool, also the bright white shirt to set her aside from the background -

i would LOVE to find a background like that - and just put a guy backpackin with a couple cans on the ground with 1 remaining spray can still in his hand, back to the cam, standing back apreciating his own work - (im trailing, but i really like the background u came across)

None the less - this is a great picture, just alot of questions u left us with. And that darkness that she's standing in -

nice work though - im liking it

Thanks for the input so far guys. I should have been more clear about the particulars of the series. It's kind of a fashion-meets-fine-art type thing that I don't really want to fall square into either. the models in all of the sets are using their props as well as fashion looks. The darkness is definitely part of the continuous look. Here's some additional shots from the series, although only a couple of them are prints.

Hopefully these explain a little more as a series as to why the model is on crutches. Thanks for checking this out!

I'm not an expert on film but I LOVE how Tri-X looks. I know someone else who shoots with it all the time.

    I love the original shot.

The original shot, and the first in the series you posted are the only ones that I really care for..... those have a sense of fashion about them, the others do not to me..... but I like the b/w
