    Cthullu

Sorry guys. If I am posting too much, just say so and I will let up.

What are the ethics of posting artwork based on photos of famous art? I assume it is fair game.

I like this, although maybe I should call it Cthihuly...

I am really happy with this one. Seriously, I am tempted to see if it will print well in slightly large format and go down to the ritz carlton denver and ask them if they will buy a print for about $1000. They will say no, but the thing is, I would not be ashamed to ask it. Happy.

Now, tear me a new one....

Be very careful. Dale Chihuly has exhibits all over the country but he is very careful in making sure that the venues he uses explicitly state that no reproductions whatsoever shall be made of his work. I'm sure there was a posting, pamphlet, or card there that stated that.

Difficult to enforce. Unless you sell a photo that is recognizeably Chihuly.

the texture and details are awesome.. the lack of symmetry is disturbing in this shot. I think cropping this way in to showcase the intricacies and detail would save this particular shot. As far as a photo to document the art itself, a reshot is in order.

I agree Caleb. This was taken quickly after dinner. I suspect there are better angles available etc. I very likely will reshoot this image.

Maybe not a reshoot though. This image is just ripe with opportunities for painted enhancements to saturation and contrast. The basic drama could be increased a lot. Not sure if I have the time what with a week off and all...

Great potential here. Beautiful lighting, colors and shapes. Going out of the frame and the base bother me. The reddish light on the right side and the light spot on the gold edge should go away as well, I think.

Great work -- keep them coming! Taking the time to critique for others makes for an effective forum and you will personally benefit as well -- I sure have.

Exposure is perfect, but composition could use some help. That wall (booth back, or whatever it is) at the bottom is a major problem. One step to the left would have removed the sprinkler head from view, and the camera angle probably should be either more angled or more straight as it effects the way the trayed ceiling edge is viewed beyond (and in the top right corner).

Thanks for the info on reproduction. I will check it out. Don't want to violate his copyright.

Ha, didn't even notice the sprinkler head. Well, that can be cloned out. I can clone out the little red reflection. Crop it a bit closer to the "feet" and then healing brush the ledge out.

I the composition, I was trying to use the ledge as a platform on which Cthullu is standing. But the biggest problem here is that I put very little thinking into the composition when I took the shot. I should have been more deliberate.
