    The County Fair
We recently went to the local county fair. While I took some of the swirling motion shots, I'm not sure that I was all that happy with the way they turned out (they looked like all the other swirly motion shots). I like these more, but I would also like to hear what you guys think and what I can do better next time.

    Thanks in advance,

    PC

PC, my only nitpick are the cables or wires in #4, and the cable running from the tip of the boat diagonally in #2. Nice "Rice Krispie" colors you got there---they snap, crackle, and pop. Well done. I rather like the b & w of #1, it works well as a silhouette.

    John,

Thank you for commenting. I always wonder when I see that the shots have a lot of views and no comments.

On #4, I was going to remove the lines, but left them there to give a sense of direction. I'll try it and see what I get. Nice catch on the cable in #2, I didn't even notice it. As for the colors, the carnival section uses pretty bright colors anyway, but I was using a polarizer to try to get more of that "Rice Krispies" feel to it. :-)

I love the clarity and the color... would you mind telling us what camera and lens(es) you used?

    McCormack,

All were shot with a Canon Rebel Xt. The black & white was with the Canon 10-22 at 17mm while the others were with the Tamron 28-75 with a polarizer filter.

So what works and what doesn't?

    Thanks,

    PC

PS - Here's another gratuitous shot...

Hey PC! I got your flickr notice. You are now a contact!

BTW, all these photos are great. Nice rich color, but I love that last shot!!

Good use of the wide angle.

Ah, a Canon Rebel Xt. The reason I asked is that I'm looking to buy a digital SLR camera, and up till now I haven't been too impressed with the quality of most of the digital photos that I've seen posted. Your shots look great, and I'll have to put the Rebel on my short list of digital cameras that I'm considering.

As to what works and what doesn't, without getting too technical I'll just say that all of your shots are pleasing to my eye, and other than the cables in #4 I can't think of a thing that I'd change about them. Well done.

    McCormack,

I'm not sure where you're looking, but there are many great pictures around, taken with a wide variety of cameras, some SLR, some DSLR, and some Point-and-shoot along with rangefinders and pinhole cameras. I'm very glad that you like my shots, but I'm not sure that it's wise to base a decision like that on one person's shots, especially mine :) .

PC, all of these look very good, with the exception of #1. . .for me. I think #1 is too bottom heavy and I would have thought the comp would look better with some of the bottom of the wheel against the sky distinguishable from the fg.
    # 3 is my fav of the bunch as I like the composition alot. . it has a good feel of balance and symetry to it and the colors rich
#4 also very good, just clone out the wires as suggested.
the gratuitous shot is also very good I might just want to see some of the shrubbery near the riders foot removed.
    Good stuff

Thanks for your advice PC, and like I said in an earlier post the Rebel is a camera that I'm considering purchasing... I will of course continue to do research on the various DSLR's that are available so that I can eventually make an informed choice on the DSLR camera that will best fit my needs.
