A connection of mother and child

My nephew was playing at McDonalds when my sister put her hand on the netting and he responded doing the same. I wish I could have gotten her in the shot too but there was a bar in my way and he is a year old, so asking him to repeat it for a better angle just was not on his agenda! Anyway, what do you think?

Re: A connection of mother and child

It's a challenge for me to like pictures that is the back of one's head. Maybe that should be a photo topic of the month because I bet there are lots of people who can pull that off. I know I can't.

Although I know you titled the shot just for the post, "A connection of mother and child" didn't translate the picture for me. But we are not judging picture names here.

His right hand almost looks like it is in his front pocket like a casual 'joe cool'. This adds humor for me which i like.

Since you could not get the mother in the shot, maybe taking an extreme perspective on the boy would've made the shot dynamic. Shoot him possibly from your knees looking up or step into the playground and shoot from above on tippy toes if you have to.

I know. It's easier said than done. I have a one year old and I don't think that quick when he is doing something spontaneous.

I really like the exposure though. I think you used a flash and it fills in just right.

Chow...this has a neat feel to it. I actually like that you can't see your sister in the picture...having just her hand makes me look a bit more, to see that it's a grown up hand against his.
My chief complaint, and it's not really that big...is that I don't like the silhouette of the chairs behind the netting...and maybe that's just a personal preference. Maybe even if their placement hadn't been right behind the baby, you know? They just seem to stick out strangely.

Again, I like the feel of this quite a bit.

Nice colors and exposure, but we have to see more of his face to make it a success, I think.

    Chow,

I think you kind of answered your own critique. More face and more mother's arm/silhouette. I love the potential though. Definitely a huge possibility for this shot.

Thank you all! I will try and see if I can get them to come back to Md's with me and try and get a reshoot. I will try to get some better angles and also try to include her in it. Thanks again!

    Hi Chow.

Don't like the shot as is, but....

Stitch stitch and stitch. Remove one year old complete with mask.

Find street scene, something crazy happening, like , oh I don;t know, Superman taking off perhaps, Ease the one year old into the foreground leaning on a lamp pole.

Dodge shadow and viola, you got yourself a book cover fer sure.

    Chow,

I definately like this shot, I know I'm going against the grain, some of my photo's do, but there is a subtle caring in this shot that allows you to imagine the mother looking on caringly and proudly at the little one in the play centre. You can even tell he's smiling from the wirnkles at the edge of the eye. Possibly, he's saying to mum come and play or your not getting me out of here.

In my opinion you got the child at just the right angle to make this work.

My only critique is the chairs which don't quite give enough separation from the child.
