    The Coming of the Thaw

I loved the frozen water on the canal and the gentle frost on the bank, along with the contrast of the warm colours of the Sun slowly starting to bathe the frost. Composed to highlight all the sweeping lines in the bank, the canal and the clouds.

This is gorgeous! Wonderful light. I just love this time of day, just as the sun is rising. It feels like you have the world to yourself while everyone else is still sleeping. I see nothing here to critique -- your exposure and composition are excellent.

The composition is good, but something isn't working for me. The lighting overall just seems bland. It might be that the trail from the foreground along the right is too bright so it detracts from the water and the boat, or maybe that the sunlight is blown out on the water, or maybe that the sunlight isn't lighting enough of the scene.

I could have quite easily bumped up the saturation, levels and exposure to give it more impact, but that's not how the scene was. My aim was to faithfully represent the scene and in doing so, send across the emotion and feel of the scene. The reason the trail is bright is that the frost is catching the sun. Thanks for the comments.
