Cold Falls
I'm a little up in the air on this one. What are your thoughts? Is the composition OK, does the B&W work?

Re: Cold Falls
I like how the 'line' of the open water leads up into the falls and the first shelf on the left leads over to the falls. I think I might like more space above the falls. It would also be nice if there was more variation in the rocks in the upper right. (Lighter & darker rocks. Called tonality?) - TF

Re: Cold Falls
Mike,
I'm really enjoying the shapes of the ice in the foreground. Overall, I like the way the stream leads the eye, and the focus is on the important part. It's solid.

Re: Cold Falls
Like OC, I think the b/w works fine but wish there was more space above the falls.
I like how the lines lead my eye but think you would achieve the same with less foreground and more bg.
Its still a good one.

Re: Cold Falls
Agreed, I wouldn't want to lose much of the foreground, do you have a wider lens that you could take to the scene?? What was the shutter speed for this shot? I am wondering if a longer exposure may have created a more dreamlike result, particularly around the dark water in the centre of the frame.

Re: Cold Falls
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Herriot, the shutter speed was .4 seconds for his image.
It is the jagged edge of ice in this image that drew me to the scene. This is a waterfall that I return to often as it's only a short distance from my house. My goal was to include the falls at the top of the frame as more of a secondary element to go along with the edge of the ice, but I'm not sure that is how it turned out. From this position, if I included more area above the falls, you would see a couple large plastic culverts. That is the reason for the tight framing at the top. Also, I was afraid if I moved too much or went with a wider lens, it would take away from the ice edge and add more empty FG. That said, I think all of your suggestions are great, and I will keep them in mind for my next trip back to this spot.
I did go back to this location today, but it has changed a lot since yesterday, thanks to Mother Nature. I have attached the colored version of the image I originally posted, along with a shot of the same location from today. I didn't want to venture to the waters edge just yet because I don't want to mess up the FG for my next trip back. :)
Thanks again everyone for taking the time to comment and for your advice.

Re: Cold Falls
I love the color version. The blues and browns are very nice together.
