Can anyone tell me what to do with the latch/lock one?

Change it to b&w o course!! :D hope ya don't mind, I took the liberty for you...Of course I deleted immediately after posting this version. Anyway, as for this particular photo, it is a little too "pedestrian" for me. Some angles would have made it stronger, but it is a good subject. I can see what you were trying to do though, and there really probably isnt another way to keep everything in proportion as you have it here.

I think the only change that should be made to the metal post and the latch is to change the background from black to another colour or even cream or white. The chain is fine in black. B&W is ok but you loose that lovely rust colour on the metal.

The tree is a little on the dark side

I agree that I think it's the background that may be killing the first image. I really like the chain image. It's simple and plain but geometric which really appeals to me.

The tree, for me, is simply too dark. I'd like to see more of the texture. But as an eerie image it works. And I don't know what to make of the last one.

I can't help but think that the first and last image may have benefitted from a slightly lower, or even higher on the first image, POV, bringing the camera more on level with the subject's plane. But that may just be me.

Yea for the tree one it was kinda hard. I had to shoot at ISO 800 with a point and shoot so lots of noise and I dont have that much control on it. Had to go with 1/4 shutter hand held also.

The tree is a nice shot, except I'd have prefered the upper branchs in focus. Still, it's kinda abstract with the soft focus...
