I think it is very beautiful. The tones and everything are PERFECT for this picture. Where was it taken??

Gary, this is gorgeous. I love how the arch mimics the door. And your placement of the pillar really supports the image (pun intended!). If I had anything to pick at, I guess it would be the gap on the right of the image. But truthfully, that's me looking for something to pick on . Because I would slap this on my wall as is, any day!!

Did anyone say luscious tones yet? I'm going with that. Your details are crisp and clear but the softness from the shading makes you want to reach in and touch those columns and doorways to experience the textures for yourself. Beautiful work as always Gary.

    Gary,

As always a beutifully capture image. I did consider as a nit pic the croping from the right to the edge of the pillar but I'm not sure if that would spoil it. _ Ohh! I just read D's note - same comment.

However the textures and tones are spot on.

Just figured out what's bugging me about the right bit, its the square thingy/notice or whatever just up from the bottom of the pillar. Perhaps a bit of a clone?

    Gary,

This is an absolutely awesome photo. I love the tone, and the composition is perfect. It's really a classic.

This is the kind of interior/architectural picture I am always trying to get but never do/can. I don't think I've seen a nicer one in some time. Everything works. Not much more to say.

Gary, this is really beautiful. I can't think of anything I'd nitpick here...and like D said, the mimicry of the door/arch is great, as is the pillar with the pillars that are part of the wall there. Very nice!!!

Very nice indeed Gary; is this the same place where you included a hooded man previously.

    Gary,

A very effective photo. To nitpick a little here, I would tend to, using Photoshop try to bring up detail in some of the black areas, particularly on the right hand side of the column in the foreground at the top and toward the bottom. It would have to be done very carefully to maintain the tones and shades of the original and it would take the right touch on the mouse to not overdo it.

    Re: Cloisters 2

Hey all, thanks for letting me in on your thoughts.

ChowChi-Ching. . . .this was taken at a place in upper manhattan called the Cloisters. It is an area of New York and also a museum dedicated to the medieval times. It 's a fantastic place to visit if your in the city. This is one of many shots i have taken there.
    thanks

D . . .lol nice pun. and a very nice compliment as well, thank you.

CLKkunst . . .thanks for the comments. This is a new post processing technique that I am going to be using on certain series and decided to use it also for the Cloister shots.

Roger . . .I was considering the crop on the right, but undecided on it. I like the space adding the idea of openess and a new dimension beyond. I see the small sign like object your referring to and it would take one or two clicks to remove it, so i think it may be gone before printing.

Liz. . .nice to see you on the forum, Liz. I'm glad you feel this is a strong image. Thanks for your time.

Greg. . .I was very fortunate that day to be able to walk around the entire museum with my tripod, or it would have been difficult getting these shots in this dark environment without it. It was winter and since this museum has alot of outdoor area, it is not popular in this season and so the staff gave me the ok to use the tripod. thanks for the comment

Emily. . .I'm glad to know your take on it. thanks for the time.

Tom . . .You have good memory and great observation. Yes, exactly right. This is the same location ( different section of the interior) as the shot of the hooded man. I have re edited that shot to look like this in tones and rather like it. . .seems to fit the atmosphere. I had posted maybe one or two more shots of this place long before that one. I think I titled one " medieval altar" or something like that. Thanks for the comments.

ronnoco . . .yes, tweaking out a bit more shadow detail in that area would not be too tricky and might be worth the effort. Thanks for your thoughts

    I really love this Gary.
The tones are wonderful and you have something going on in the foreground, centre and background of the picture. A very nice feeling of depth.
I should imagine this is a very good example of the rule of 3rds, am I right?

Classy! The lighting is quite dramatic yet smooth at the same time. I like that! I think that you could afford to crop a slight slice at the right. I believe that it would enhance the picture but it already looks specatcular as people have stated.

I'll hit the cloisters one of these days....

    Gary,

Cloning the square and the crop is not necessary for me.

Beautiful shot Gary. The warm tone is effective but I bet I'd like it printed with inky blacks as well. This has much the same feel as your inside looking out series.
The area around 3/4 up the righthand column seems overly dodged or under burnt to me. (How's that for nitpicking?)
I'm itchin' to get in close to that door and candelabra.

    Bravo Gary,
Let me add my name to the list. This is Fine Art, and I hope to find it in a museum collection some day. Just beautiful work.

    Re: Cloisters 2

Alison. . .to tell you the truth, I don't know if it would be a good example or not. i guess you could say the main column falls into a third. I will admit, I never think about that when I'm composing a shot. I just keep moving the frame around until I feel it is right.(as probably most of us do) I've seen you mention the rule a few times , and , from what I can see with your work you have no issues with composition. Thanks for the comments.

Payn817 . . .thanks for your good words. I must tell you that I'm still smilin from your last comment you posted on Seb's thread "unleashed"

Seb. . .your suggestion is well taken and noted. Yes, you must make the attempt to hit this place. It has an atmosphere like nothing else. Natural lighting lights up much of the entire display.

Roger. . .yes, but it wouldn't hurt.

Chunk . . .thanks for the reply. I too notice what you pointed out and i do not recall doing any major dodging or burning in that area, but i always thought it was a sort of glary diffusion from the rays of outside light coming in from that opening. btw, looks like your Lumix signature graphic will be coming into style. . . and you were already way ahead of the trend!

Tim. . . great to see an encouraging remark as that. thanks much.

I'm actually looking to submit a picture for an upcoming spring exhibit. The picture will be submitted to the Silent auction display and early submissions will be among those selected for major advertising blitz in the N.Y art publications. From the response from the forum on this picture, I will be considering submitting this one. Thanks again

Very nice, Gary. I believe I remember the first you chose to post from this set of shots a while back and it too was nice. You appear to have taken good advantage of the location.
