Re: Church
looks like the bro with the forty doesn't like you

Re: Church
I like this one a lot. Great atmosphere.

Re: Church
Hi Greg - I like this one too - with the guy with the bottle it looks like a bowery type mission church. Great atmosphere and the guy makes it. The one thing I would suggest is bringing up the contrast in the sign on the wall a little in order to make it just a tad more readable. Even so, a worthy addition to your portfolio.
Cheers

Re: Church
I like it and agree with Mike about the sign. Did you do any sharpening...seems a bit fuzzy all over but might be my glasses are dirty.

Re: Church
Heres a good one. Good building for a upfront / straight forward picture. and a guy walking by with a 40oz is a good touch ;)
Old beat up, etc -
Maybe a ground level lookin' up during the evening sunset might give it a more distinct feel??
I just think from the right side with that dead tree in the evening light would look nice -
but i like the picture - keep em' coming

Re: Church
Racedraper, Thanks
Mike, I added a contrast layer but then had to use the eraser to get detail back in the "Gentelmans" face. I am glad you mentioned the sign. I thought about detailing it but then thought that it might add to the feel if the viewer had to look a little harder to see what it read.
Frog, I sharpened it slightly, I thought I had before but maybe not enough.
Thanks kemekal_d300, looks as though we are nieghboors.

Re: Church
Oh My...What a great shot...With out the homy, it would simply be another old church, but with the homy and his bottle, it is a classic..He needs to make a right turn and go in....
The composition is great, The Balck and white is perfect here, the image is as sharp as a tack...Did you shoot it with your new Toy?

Re: Church
i didnt' even notice that - No wonder that church looks soo familiar ! ;)
1 thing i noticed with your second picture, it looks as if where the sky and the clouds meet have been edited to where a straight edge eraser has taken away some of the grey in it - didnt know if its just a touch up that got saved early, or what - just looking out for you - but i do like the contrast touch up in the 2nd one

Re: Church
Thanks Javier, not with the Leica but I have a version with it coming. With an old lady shot on a different day. If the film turns out I will share it.
Thanks again kemekal_d300, No processing om the sky.

Re: Church
Nice shot and well composed.
I keep wondering if it would look better without the lines on the bottom and then keep wanting them left in. Boy, I used to be indecisive, but I'm not sure anymore!:D
I think I prefer the original as the softness adds to the mood of the unkempt building and the weather at the time.
No matter what its a good shot.

Re: Church
Roger, I had mixed feelings about the stripe too but in the end I thought it would help frame the shot

Re: Church
Greg - Hmmm. The guy there makes it different. Whenever I shoot shots like this of people ,I usually find them less-than-excited about being photographed.. this guy looks all shook up. The church is a good subject, but I keep getting the feeling like it's slightly tilted to the right even though the street lines up correctly with the bottom of the frame - maybe the building itself is leaning..? Since I think I'm the only one mentioning that on this posting, I wouldn't sweat it. It is a tad soft, but probably OK. The pt of shots like this is to capture the moment, so absolute technical perfection is allowed to suffer a tad... you got the shot!

Thanks as always. Your help is always appreciated GB. I do see the lean. I think the building is on a slight hill and when I leveled the road you see it in the building. Keen eye GB. But he wasn't shook up. He was drunk and curious as to who I was. He just had stumbled out of a liquor store about a block away and I waited for him to pass. I was also going to wait for him to look away but he never did. If you think he is shook up wait until you see the film version if the negatives come out. The next day it was an old lady. If it turns out I will share it.

Re: Church
Love the guy with the 40. He gives the picture character.

Re: Church
Where are you shooting these, Greg? I love the urban strife mixed in what seems to be a relatively rural/small-town setting. Great emotional contrast.
That guy looks big and unhappy.
