Christmas Tree Lights

I was playing over christmas - what do people think of this?

I really like the shapes made by the light, an interesting effect.

I'm thinking perhaps up the contrast to obscure some of the details in the background. Shame you cropped the top off the tree of too :(

Otherwise, a successful experiment :)

I like your light bubbles. I have to ask what kind of christmas light makes that effect?!?! I realize it's a timed exposure but it looks almost like sparkler fire or something. Two more steps backward would have given you the top of the tree but experiments aren't always about composition too. Anyway I like it and think you should keep your lights out when you put the rest of Christmas away. What else could you hang them on? Hmmm.

Different effect. Looks like someone has had a little too much Christstmas wine. The lights take over the shot so the slight blur of the tree doesnt matter. Very nice colors too

To think I nearly threw this in the bin - Thanks for the comments much appreciated

Situation room is pitch black except for the tree lights. My Canon PowerShot Pro 1 viewer can't see a thing but the lights, I stand there and just move the camera without looking throught the viewer in a circle and voila one picture. Yes wine was involved possibly some Port as well :-)

The shot is straight out of the camera and yes I agree it needs some correction - I will play with it tonight.

Hindey, CL Kunst, Pripe - Yes of all the ones I took I missed the top of the tree in all of them and now the tree has been pulled down. I didn't look at these until after the tree came down rats! Lights are up the loft so may get them down to find something to hang them on, but what?

GB1 - all the colours are from the trimings on the tree and possibly lens refraction/reflection.

Yoyo - Is that the elf with the collar or the chubby one and can you see the spider with the huge eyes? - I thought I was going nuts so that must make two of us LOL

It is kinda trippy in a way and It has this 60's "feel good" sorta mood to it. "hey cheech, you see those halos maaan?" :)

In all seriousness though, the light rings are very nice and IMO make this shot great. Their placement is also unevenly and spontaneously wonderful.

Though, I don't see the elf neither the spider.

I don't see the spider, but I see the elft at the top, and I see a horse (very frightened and cartoonish) head to the right, and the rest of the body formed by the dark parts of the tree.

Great shot. I tried something like this to make hearts. I never did get it right! LOL

I forgive you now for chopping off the top of the tree!! I had no idea you did a camera rotation to achieve this effect. I considered it for a second but thought this image was more a function of rotating lights ON the tree not the camera. In that case I think it is remarkable that you kept so much of the original tree's shape and recognizable definition without cementing the deal with a trailing curtain flash or a hand held burst or something. Kudos Roger! A very good result for such an experiment! :D :cool: :p

Why didn't I think of the 2nd curtain flash, drat. Must stop taking pictures after drinking :-) The last time at a party I had several totally black pictures Hmmm!

The camera wasn't rotated but moved in a circle always keeping it at the same angle if that makes sense, I think its what you may mean by rotation.

Here we go for all who can't see the faces I see - you have to have a warped imagination for this so be prepared with the headache pills :LOL

- Yoyo not sure which one you spotted.
1: I think most people see this elf at the top of the tree
2: Another bubbly elf that I can see not sure about others
3: The spider/crab with the big eyes
4: The elf/pixie with the high collar and evil smile
5:d: I thought this was more of a deer with antlers than a horse with the antlers level with the #4 at the edge of the tree.

Am I sick or just very sad?
