chaos, order, and light

I'd say my order shot is probably the weakest since it's thrown off by the tall guy in the back. that can be easily photoshopped out, or I could do a reshoot, but it's near impossible to get all the guys here at the same time. I'll live with it. after all, it is an intro to photography class. I highly doubt anyone will be that worried. If anything, I can make up an artistic excuse for the tall guy in the back.

chaos- works for me---order---I only got the order of it I hardly noticed the height until you mentioned it in your post(the lighting is very nice)...have you considered taking your first guy and just cloning him into the postion of the other guys....what more order than the same kind of something all lined up...light- I get the concept of the light(illuminated person surrounded by darkness but because of her pose it makes me think of darkness(depression/despair)

If anything, I can make up an artistic excuse for the tall guy in the back. lol
probabaly works for the moment but just two cents ---try not to at all get in a habit of thinking that way---in time you'll find yourslef justifying why you do things as opposed to growing as a photographer (speaking from experience)

very true, you have a point (it was kind of said just jokingly, but I see exactly what you mean) With the order, that cloning idea did come into my mind, but unfortunately this is a black and white film class. So I can't really clone too well in the darkroom. this is just a rough idea of my final project with my digital copies. And yeah, people have expressed concerns about the third one, but I showed my prof and she said it fit well. since she's the one who's going to be grading, that's what matters. Many people interpreted light a different way than I did.

i actually ended up changing the middle shot. I had been thinking about cloning it, then after you said it, I thought about it for a while then realized how I could do it. So here it is.

I cloned him, made the second 85% of original size, third 70% of original size, then applied a guassian blur of 2.0 to the second, and 4.0 to the third. Then i printed it out, and photographed the photo! And so there we go, I have a copy on film, which is exactly what I needed!

cool shots...the only thing that I might consider is to change the female subject to a male to make a more unified theme?? I also think it would be neat if the subject in the light
was looking up with the light reflected off her/his face (if you wanted to project a more
positive image) the 2nd shot with the cloned subject is perfect.

i actually have quite a few different poses of the girl in the darkness, a couple of which show her face. when I print them I'll post them.

I think this is a very cool project Brent, and the cloning idea for the order shot crossed my mind too. It's deffinetly doable with B&W film, but it will take some practice, and some time. You could do it as a multiple exposure in camera, or a multiple exposure in the darkroom with the enlarger.

yeah, the hardest part would be blocking out the previous exposure, so that one exposure is behind each other instead of being combined.

We must have all been thinking the same thing about the order shot. I like it much better now it's the same person x3.
