Chameleon

This is a test of my Chameleon concept formed from the Haunting self portrait.

This is NOT a photoshop blend.

Front curtain flash with a hex grid firing right at my face. There is a fill flash on umbralla to the left of shot. 10 second exposure. I flash my face and then get the hell out of the way.

This has potential. I like. Probably derivative and lame...

It does have potential! I think it would work A LOT better if your head was inside the actual picture frame maybe?

Maybe, but the specific shot here is not important. It is the potential of the process I am interested in.

You can see the shadows of my shoulders below the picture. A faster shutter speed would have made me more visible but have reduced the texture from the picture on my face. Some day cameras will be able to sample the exposure second by second and give you 100 exposure samples from one shot. You will be able to pick the ones you want from many many shutter speeds one one shot. You don't thinks so? I do. Memory capacity will be infinite. Processing speed will be nearly so.

I think the process and concept has lots of potential, and this one is interesting. You may also be interested in the strobe effect of the spedlites, or as the Canon is called "multi" I had some very fun experiments using a long shutter and mulitple strobe bursts while moving around within the frame.
Your creativity is always very good and experimental.

Thanks for the comments guys. This kind of shot is a bit gimmicky although I do think it looks cool as well, but the technique probably is not generally useful. I probably will try to do some ghost in the forest effects when I do motorcycle camping next summer. It is pretty funny that I bought the G11 to reduce my load when motorcycling, and contrary to my intent my interest has gone up so now rather than just the dlsr and a lens I will need the g11, a dlsr, a couple lenses, two 580 ex2 flash units, a tripod a light stand and maybe some diffusion tools.

Sigh.
