These look great. We just had a snowstorm here too, but I haven't been able to head out and get pictures yet. I just may right now though. the only problem I have with these pictures would be that the third one has footprints in it. This subtracts from the "untouched" look of the snow.

Interesting stuff,

The "powder" going in the wind add a good sense of movement which make these shots dynamic. I like the sun light at angle too. Have you burned your skies or have you used a filter? Either way, it add drama to the scenes.

The first picture would work best I think if there was no distinguishable background, just a tree lost in the snow. It still look interesting though.

The second and third one are also interesting (especially the third one with the darker sky but I would loose the footprints as livin4lax09 already stated).

That being said, my favorite one clearly is your fourth picture. This one has a nice graphic quality. It's stripped down and efficient. No clutter, just a pleasing snow scene.

I like the first (top) image the best. Just seems isolated, and the constast of the tree against the background looks nice. Sort of minimalist.

This pic, for whatever reason, reminds me of a lone Christmas tree. Note to demean the photo or anything, I added a few Xmas lights to it. Just to see what it looked like. Could be done better of course, but I like how isolated colors look on B&W images.

Btw -- Why "... and Dead" ? It doesn't seem like any of the trees are dead, just retreated for the winter...

I like the B&W. Did you take these in color and edit them? I'd be interested to see the color shots in scenes with so little color to begin with. The smokey effect in the vertical shot is really nice. Too bad about the foreground tire tracks. I feel cold just looking at them. Nice job.

Great shooting, and my favourite is also the first too. The one critique I'd offer is to crop all the trees behind it in the far background, just to have that one tree there in the snow, great simplicity shot!

As far as best of the bunch to me. I am for the bottom one. Like Seb said the "graphic quality...stripped down".
I'd probably just crop in the left oh so slightly to remove that one tree against the edge. It would be really clean then.
The top one and the bottom one would work well in a grouping if you had one more along similar lines.
The two in the middle don't do so much for me, though they are nice shots of pleasant scenes.

All good shots. I love the first one. That's definately my fav out of the 4. That lonely tree wow, it's the kind of shot I love to hang up on my walls.

All - Thanks for all the great compliments and advice.
I have to agree with everyone that the vertical shoot is out...after looking at the foot prints this takes away from the photo and does not fit the others.

GB1 - The title was to go with three of the pictures because I wanted to do a series (kinda was thinking Heaven #2, Purgatory #1 and Hell #4 - but that seemed cheesey ). Picture four's trees are without a doubt dead

The first shoot was snapped at Big Sky, Montana. All the rests were taken in Yellowstone park at the Paint Pot thermals. THe clouds that you see is really steam from the thermals.
All pictures were taken with Kodak TMax 100 B&W. The lense had a #8 Yellow Filter. No editing has been done.

My fingers are still cold from the experience ;)
