Butterfly

I took this picture at a local butterfly exhibit in Indianapolis. Thoughts and critiques welcome.

What a beautiful little creature! the colour is gorgeous. I agree with everything Alison says, the shot is stunning.

Hi - Nice shot, the 3 dimensionality is powerful. For improvement, I would have probably used a slightly deeper DOF and/or a faster shutter speed, for it seems just a tad bit out of focus/soft. Nice capture however, esp considering you were using a 50mm lens (which I guess is equiv to ~ 75mm with digital): pretty hard to get close to butterflies before they take off.

It took about half an hour of following this type of butterfly before one of them would land and keep its wings open for more than 5 nanoseconds. I was very fortunate to be near this one and to be able to get a picture of it. Thank you for your compliments and criticisms!
