Ruined toon

I have taken a lot of shots of this ruin in edinburgh overlooking Holyrood Palace and calton hill. I will never tire of climbing the path up to it, the view is awesome. This is my best so far but something still is not right with it. Maybe a wider angle lens may do the trick but untill i have the funds this will have to do.I would appreciate any comments. Thank You

Very nice. I'd like to see it with a more colourful sunset as well.
I know you could tweak the colours in PS, but I think it might look artificial.
Certainly I'm not good enough to alter the colours in PS !

Only one small thing I woudl change, a cloud to the left of the ruin smack in the bright sunlit cloud. Probably a few paces to the right (if you don't fall off the hill) might have fixed that.
Anyhow I removed it - I know it's far easier digitally than dodge and burn in the real darkroom

Initially I was distracted by that V shaped notch in the skyline on the left. But the grasses in it silhouetted against the sky made be decide not to crop it out.


Composition is nice to my inexpert eye. I know some people want a straight horizon, but here I think it works - astually leading you from left to right down the slope.


We'll be up there next weekend. Smart owners club rally in Perth, staying with friends in Currie on the way - it's a long drive from Oxford !
I doubt if my wife will let me "waste" time taking photos though

I don't think this needs anything. It's terrific.
If you want to try something else, could you get the camera even lower and include more of the grass in the silhouette? Right now all you can see is the seed heads and it might be a nice addition to have the stems and maybe some leaves.

I don't really think that I can add anything to what was already said, you have already received some very detailled comments and this is definately a superb photo.

I just want to point out the fact that I really do not think that the horizon line is an issue here, considering that you are on top of an hill and that we don't see much of the horizon line. Beside, the ruin is straight which is the key point.

Rich colours and dramatic sky.Only thing i dind a "wee" bit distracting is that pole or tower at bottom left hand side.Have done a crop to see what it would be like without it.Hope you dont mind.

SmartWombat, the ruin is st anthonys chapel on whinney hill above St Margarets Loch looking over holyrood palace and scottish parliament but yes it sits by arthur seat
