It's flower time of the year here in San Diego, though it won't be a great year due to very inconsistent weather.

Sometimes the Auto Adjust feature in Corel PhotoPaint can produce some wild results. As different as it is, I'm not sure it's bad. Your take? Which do you like the best, if either?

woah. that's crazy auto adjust right there. I think both have their good quallities about them. The first one works if you're looking for analogous colours. Kind of a similar family of colours and the flower blends in with BG more. the 2nd one has some contrasting colours and the flower stands out more. Either is fien. but if I had to chose one, i'd probably go with #2.

I like strong colours and that's the one that delivers more for my personal taste.

as for other technical stuff, like dof etc. they are pretty well controlled.

I agree with Liban. The front pedals get lost with the green background, the contrast with the blue really brings them out. I like both, but I had to choose one of the, #2

Thanks fellows. This one's a dilemma because I think that the blue creates a neat aura, if psychedelic is OK. This macro lens continues to make me happy btw.. I've had it for about 15-20 years now, manual focus thingie.

Liban, thanks and I guess you're up for experimental stuff. Great to know.Yes, the background being darker seems to help here .. makes the yellow flower stand out more. As for the dof I was really torn as to how much to use, but I think that I probably could have gone deeper since I was so close. It's been windy though and I needed the speed to try to freeze the flower (finally just held the stems w/ my left hand).

Emiles, I agree! I guess the blue wins, but maybe I could also adjust the green background to be darker too.

Maybe I'm being too much an inside-the-box thinker, but I just see goofy colors in photoshop in the second. The natural hue is pleasant in number one and produces a soft and pleasing image, very good shot. The sharpness of the contrast in the second one significantly mitigates that 'soft hue' impact and I think eliminates that feel.

It might work if the blue was as faint and natural of a hue as the green. Could make it look believably like a sky background, might give it a natural perspective as well, just one pastel blue with a very soft and subtle transition to match the soft detail of the flower petals. Or... clouds, maybe. Hmm...

Or, on the other hand, if you want to go for psychedelic, go much much further than that. I don't like the mix of natural and unnatural hues.

Thanks Anbesol ... but I wonder how much my byline and comparative photo influenced your impression of the adjusted one (hard to say). Here's a few edits to the realistic version, just for fun. No clouds on these, though I can definitely see that working (a low angle .. sky up above). Maybe next time on that.
