    Blue Eyes

I took this picture of my 4 month old sons eyes last night when I was playing with my new T1i and he was actually being good I love this picture! And I love my camera, but something about this pic hits me the wrong way. I kind of wish I was zoomed out a bit, but Iwanted to get a close up of his eyes... IDK lol

Nice eyes here. They could be a little sharper but under the circumstances I think it's better to capture the moment than shoot for perfection and miss it. Composition of the image could be a little better too, I think, perhaps a vertical format? Nice work though.

Welcome, amorton! He is adorable! You have come to the right place to learn more about photography. Lots of helpful people and a lot of them can give some really good advice. Another thing that I appreciate here is the honesty, kind, but honest.

I think it's always a little touchy trying to critique pictures of one's children -- pretty obvious why, huh?!! So, here goes...

Maybe the thing that strikes you wrong is what strikes me wrong -- because you have cropped in so close and because most all babies' heads are somewhat out of proportion to the rest of their body, it feels to me that his head is just kind of "out there" without an appropriate body. So, what I would do is crop even closer just above his eyebrows to capture those beautiful eyes and just below his mouth to capture that great expression. This will cut out the prominence of his forehead and the smallness of his body. I am just beginning (and I mean just beginning) to do post processing. If you could crop on kind of a diagonal or rotate some and crop or however it can be done so as to keep both eyebrows level and his mouth level, I think it would be a great photo!

Looking forward to more from you.

Yea I get what you are saying lol. I understand what you are saying about the big huge head thing. I kind of realized it after you posted. So I played with it a little-pretty new to photoshop but I came up with this

I think that's better -- do you? I tend to like really close in-you-face shots many times, so if it were me, I would even crop more off on the right side to put that beautiful blue eye at the 2/3rd point. Great that you have a handsome model on hand!
