    Petit Jean State Park

This is a shot of Cedar Falls at Petit Jean State Park. The waterfall its close to 100 feet tall and about 30 feet wide due to all the rain this year. Comments are welcomed and appreciated.

Wow, hard to tell its that tall without anyting there for reference. I really like how you composed this one.
I find it difficult to get a good composition and see many others as well have a hard time with waterfalls.
I like your keeping it off center and including the receiving body of water below.
The only issue with this for me is the non ideal lighting from the harsh midday sun. The whites are blown and very bright while the dark areas have little detail. Not much you can do under these conditions, but you did quite well considering.
This is all in all a fine shot.

I like the composition, but the lack of dynamic range hurts everything else. This situation would have been a great excuse for HDR.

You know I didnt even think of that . I mainly just went out on the hike because I was bored and it was so beautiful that i didnt want to stay inside. And I took my camera along. Ive been holding off on photography this past week or so because Im getting a DSLR here in another week.

I'm looking to finally get a simple point and shoot that i can have with me more often for those times when geting the scene, whether the lighting is right or not is better than not getting it all.
When you do get the DSLR and want to get some better shots, keep the lighting in mind and pay attention to the sky cover.

Absolutely better than a simple point and shoot.
Hey, we would love for you to write a review about it in our review section.
It does not have to be all technical and stuff, just tell people what you like and don't like about it.
One thing for sure, it seems to have pretty good picture quality.

This is actually very cool. Even though it is in focus, there is an over-all feeling of being out of focus. Cant say why even if I am right, which I probably am not. I think part of the issue is that there is no firm focus subject to offset the water. Good shot.

Yah Gahs. I am doing all my experimentation with a point and shoot g11, because live view makes it so much more usable to a tard like me. I am going to try some shoots with the dlsr and better lenses soon, but it is so much harder.

Man daq I would love to live where you live. I think anywhere in Colorado is awesome. I have a buddy that lives in Arvada. His name is Michael DeLeon. His website is michaeldeleonphoto.com. He is phenomenal at nature photography.

Yeah, except for the prolonged cold, Colorado is just about perfect for all sorts of stuff from dual sport motorcycling to natuer photography. Overall California might be better, but good luck affording it.
