So less colour or regular colour? I really am torn between the two. I'm slightly favoring the desaturated. What do you think?

I'd like to see it somewhere in between the two, the first almost looks like a selective BW as the bg is so monotone. I think it would be good to keep some sense of color in the back, but a soft subtle sort of moonlit looking color.

I didn't vote since there is no "between" option.

The blue does leap out at you, I think I prefer the full colour version.

Tough call. I like both for different reasons, but think I may prefer the colour/color/couleur/cullah (New York spelling).

My question is, how did you get it so crisp/sharp? Seriously.

Charlie, yeah i didn't like the way the first one had a selective colour feel to it, and that's why i posted the 2nd one after second thought. thanks for the suggestion, oh and the way you guys misspell colour is astonishing lol.

my sharpness have been increasing ever since i bought a more proper tripod. (monfrotto something something) also, I was luck the people in the bus weren't moving. I couldn't go really high on the Aperture because I shot this at 6.3f and 13 seconds! already. I couldn't get any longer exposures for fear of people or even the bus getting out. lol. So, I really don't know. I shot at 13 seconds, heafty tripod, I think I was using my nikon 18-200mm and F6.3.

oh and obviously i was shooting using the timer mode, only because i forgot my shutter release cable at home.

Okay... but, point blank, my images at 6.3 on a tripod with one of Canon's sharpest lenses (24-70L) on MLU are nowhere near that sharp. They look like total dogshit by comparison. I was wondering what kind of sharpening, if any, you might have done in post - and how much. The clarity is amazing - especially in the water! And that light reflection under the bus - wow!

aah. i see, i love the 'clarity' slider when i open the raw files in photoshop. i usually boost that about 20%. that works wonders! how do you work with your raws?

also for upload purposes or when i'm printing, i might add a bit of unsharp mask. make the pixels very small. like 0.3 or 0.4 and the percentage a lot. like80%

oh, I was talking about the RAW, when I open the file in the RAW dialogue box in Photoshop. I crank the clarity to 20% or about that depending on the photo. Just make sure you zoom in to see what it's doing.

The pixels smaller comment was about the unsharp mask dialogue box.
Amount: I make this high.
Radius: (0.4) I make this small. because it makes the sharpness more controlled to the pixels. I find that if this is high, photoshop will take a group of pixels and sharpen them together. you get me? this makes is cleaner for me. i find it very sloppy when i increase this.
Threshold: I leave this at 0.

oh yeah, i don't bother with the sharpness in RAW. Clarity does a much better job.

Thanks Tom. It's not selective colour btw. it just looks it cause the background had very little colour (comparatively) even in the original so when i desaturate it loses most colour.

Thanks for clearing that up for me and I can see that now looking at the original again. Have to say though Liban that the finished image gives a very similar result when the van becomes coloured in a b/w environment.

I like the color edit the reflection is stronger. I do think you could work on the blown out light in the reflection. Well done.

oh yeah. no doubt. this is one of the reasons i posted the colour image. i thought the desaturated, while nice, looked like a selective colour. other posters even touched on that in this very thread. but yeah I definitely agree, it give off the impression of a coloured in van and car behind it. thanks again tom

maybe crop a bit from the foreground, up to the smaller pebble ? so it looks more panoramic
