Of the two, I think the first one has the most going for it.
It shows a considerable amount of the larger landscape that the rider is in, which is a good thing!
The rider is a little centered and I think that the branches in the foreground on the right side a little distracting. You could have stepped back and shot this with a longer lens to get passed that. Also the bag, I am guessing it's yours, just to the right of the stump on the right, kind of takes away from the enviroment.
    Hope this helps!

I noticed the branches too, next time I'll try to get them out of the way somehow, or less distracting. And I'm not sure who's backpack that is, probably the rider's pack... but at least it somewhat blends in and is not some bright color. I'm still learning, I only bought my camera two months ago.

Here is a sequence shot I put together for my website...

    Nice shots d,

I agree with brian that the first is the stronger. For me, it can be improved to bring better focus to your subject, the stunt, yet keep some of the other elements. For me, I would crop on the left part way up the ramp -- and on the right somewhere mid-stump. I think this helps pull your composition from being so centered and give a better feel for the nice hang time your subject is experiencing.

    Cheers,

    nice shots.

I also agree that the first shot is better. I like the foreground branches in the left and middle of the shot, but the right ones are distracting. I think this pic would have much more presence if the stump/bag/branches were cropped out of the right side. very nice though.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to ride with him again sometime to get more shots, and I will try to get the same shot, but better. I'll post it here when that happens.
