The Bigger Picture

This is a shot from last weekend's "indoor outing".
Your thoughts on it would be much appreciated.

This one's a little tough because there are some nice elements here, like the couple and the attention the photo gives them, and I don't feel that all the things overwhelm the viewer in any sense. The biggest issue I do see though is how they're fading into the background; there's not enough separation between them and it. Maybe color would have done that better in this situation. They're not super sharp but it's OK. Alas, the blur on the person on the left and they way she seems to 'float' is distracting. In all though, a very human shot.

I agree that it would have been better if the subject was alone in the gallery.
Like with flowers, you have to work with what you get......:)

I like how they fade in yet stand apart.
I do think they need a bit more separation though. Don't know how that would be achieved.
I'd like more of them...not sure if it would have to be all but her hand chopped off bothers me and then if it were in I'd probably miss their legs and feet.
I also think the positives outweigh the negs.

Tom I like it I think the B&W conversion looks fine. It is all framed up well. Maybe clone the one guy over the gents shoulder but other than that I think it is a good shot.

It kind of makes me think of Garry Winogrand with the people hanging out of the frame, you made it work. Google him. He broke all the rules and got away with it.

My idea for this photograph was that the couple would integrate into the picture and become part of the painting. I think having them very sharp or standing out any more than they are now would not have aided this intention.
I don't believe this shot has worked very well though; the main problem I feel is one of scale.
I have a couple more with more movement from the onlooker or passing viewer so hopefully I can make one of them work better.
Greg; I am not too familiar with Gary Winogrand but I was familiar with one or two of his works, especially the brilliant but frightning one of the couple carrying the monkeys as though they were their own children.
I have now looked at more of his stuff and it is really original and wonderful. Thanks for pointing him out to me.
