Big sky
B&W or colors??? Then again, I can't make my mind. I must say that both versions received wildly differents post-processing. The b&w definately isn't a straight forward conversion of the color version you are seeing here.
Comments are welcome.

Re: Big sky
I don't see why you need to choose!
Both are beautiful shots and each picture relays a different feeling or mood! If you ABSOLUTELY must choose, then i guess the reason for the "must" should help you decide. otherwise, keep them both and put them each in the category that fits!
Wouldn't you agree?? :D

Re: Big sky
Seb, I really like them both as well, I must ask though, what was your setup for this shot (and your "where's the beef" shot). I'm blown away by how "big" your shots are.

Re: Big sky
If the composition, exposure and contrast is good, it really doesn't seem to make much difference. A good photo is a good photo, whatever you choose.
For me the colour, because the green on the distant hill and the brown of the cliff dont' have the same impact in the B&W..

Re: Big sky
They are both good as mentioned.
I am favoring the b/w as I personally find seascapes in b/w to be much more powerful. The sea is calm, but the sky is far more dramatic in the monochromatic.
I believe it is one of those compositional choices that a photographer has to ultimately decide what they wish to express.
Thanks for showing these!

Re: Big sky
I have to agree. the black and white is defnitly more powerful for me. I find it difficult to look at the beach in colour. it seems a bit too distracting to my eye. Black and white looks excellent. you nailed the perfect contrast.

Re: Big sky
i like the color one better, the blue water and the green look really nice to me.

Re: Big sky
I like them both. I seem to like the color more visually...but I like the mood conveyed in the B&W.

Re: Big sky
It is definatly all about the sky in these photos. I love them both, but the hills don't look as good in the B&W.

Re: Big sky
Thanks all!
So many people, so many different views and that's allright!
jlange: To answer to your question, most shots of this series (including where's the beef) were made with my wide angle (12mm-24mm) zoom which allow for that perspective. Big sky was shot with a conventional 28mm-75mm zoom at the widest end of the focal range. It almost looks wide angle, probably because of the clouds formation.

Re: Big sky
Seb,
Don't mean to be wishy-washy about this but these are both excellent photos having two different appeals. Being the "color" guy that I am I nearly fell out when scrolling down from b/w. Really a powerful difference. Very nice to look at either way but the color is commanding, however.

Re: Big sky
I like both. The blue is so nice though that it's a shame to lose the color.
I wish there was an interesting vehicle in the foreground on the left-bottom side. Seems a bit lonely like it is :)
