    Speed Racer

From a race I went to last week, trying out some techniques. Tips? Likes or dislikes? Let me have 'em!

    Re: Speed Racer

For myself I quite like it. You have a nice diagonal sense of composition, and the rider just behind makes it. There is a good sense of power and speed too - I am assuming this is a panning shot? The one thing that occurred to me though is how it would print up. It looks sharp (where it needs to be) on my monitor, but I wonder if it would on a print?

I like the composition but I'm afraid the back of the bike is too blurry. I would try shooting at a faster speed so the leg isn't so distracting.

    Love It!

Scott, I think this one is awesome. I love the motion blur and I think the composition is excellent. The only thing I might change is the crop. I can't help but wonder if it might be stronger if you tightened it up a bit. Is all the blur in-camera?

Have you been spending a lot of time at the velodrome? I only made it out there once. My photos all sucked but it was a memorable experience. It's a super fun scene out there.

    Re: Speed Racer

    Thanks!

Yeap, thats all in camera, and I believe I cropped it a little bit before I posted it. I live 5 miles by bike away from the Velodrome, so I'm gonna start going there for the Wed & Thurs night races. Hopefully ya'll won't get sick of Velodrome photos

I plan on trying to make this shot again this week, with a little less blur on it. I personally would like to have the rider a little less blurry. It was one of those photos when I saw it in the LCD I knew I got my shot

This is a photo you'll never be able to replicate. Be happy you have this one. As for getting one with the rider less blurry, I like it as-is. I can't see the full size version, of course. But I think you've got just the right amount of blur. I like that his leg is in motion. It shows he's pedaling. That's a key bit of information. A frozen leg wouldn't have the same dynamic this one has. But by all means, experiment more! I have no doubt you'll get lots more good stuff. I always wanted to set up a bunch of slaved flashes. I didn't have my PocketWizards when I shot there. It was probably 4 years ago.
