Lightbulb Bender the Mini Pinscher. - Featured Photo!

A quick image taken of my puppy while he was playing in the grass. I took about 60 shots of him, 6 turned out OK. This being my favorite. He runs around sooooooo much it was a miracle that I got this framed up and shot while he was still for 1/4 second.

Absolutely no photoshop work done on this shot. Straight from camera to the web

    Canon 300D

    1/80th
    400ISO

Not a bad shot at all, focus on the eyes, background that is not distracting and the lighting seems to be quite ok.

The only thing I don't like is the distortion of his head, caused by using the wrong focal length.

    Thanks for sharing.

Distortion? He is a puppy and has a really big head... maybe I am missing something?

I agree with gahspidy. Top job!. I also like the colour saturation. i could see this in the pages of a book on puppies. Btw i never would agree to a strangers request to see his puppy normally

    A Doby!

Really nice shot I'd say. No corrections necessary that I can see. Congrats on the new pup. Dogs rule.

    I Like The Big Head

I'm not sure whether the big head is caused by distortion or not. Regardless, I like it. It's kinda goofy and makes the picture more interesting and fun for me.

Thanks everyone. I'm sure you will see more photos of him as he grows up.

JoeD, My site is currently down. Once that comes back up I will try to post another photo of him in this thread.

    Fun Pic!

    Great pet pic!
It shows a lot of character!
I don't think there is anything you could do to improve, you captured him with a good expression and pose.

Sweet. Thanks for picking this photo.

JoeD, I don't want to clog this thread up with more images. Check out this one for the distortion you were talking about: http://www.mattmcinvale.com/gallery/Bender/IMG_2980

Yes, I agree, there is no distortion at all, not so much when I compare the original image with your link, but more when I compare it with this one: http://www.mattmcinvale.com/gallery/Bender/IMG_2967

I made a false conclusion, sorry.

No worries JoeD, thanks for the comments.

BTW, what would cause the distortion you were talking about? Wide angle lens perhaps?

In general people tend to use at least something like a 90mm (more is better) for portrait photography. Try to take a full shot of someone's face with both a 50mm and 90mm and compare the results and you'll see what I mean; eyes pulled to the sides, nose that is too big, just the whole face is slighty (but visible) out of proportion.

Cool, I will check that out. 90 is pretty long, what if you don't have a lot of space to work in? any way to compensate for a shorter lense?
