    Kew Gardens - Water Lily

    Hi all

One of these very photogenic flowers, taken at Kew Gardens, which are the national gardens near London.

    Cheers

You need to be very pedantic to fault this, very nice Mike.

lovely. super sharp, super clean, super awesome!

lol !@ Pete, come on man. now i'm gonna seem pedantic.

I would shave a bit off the top! Maybe half way down from the top edge of the image to the flower! I think it sits a little too low in the frame.

On my screen this is thankfully not "super" sharp. Better still, it has a lovely velvety feel to it, just as my eyes would view the real thing. Very nice Mike.

Now to avoid giving PJ an attack of the vapors I'd best say what I like about this. The colours and focus seem just about perfect, not at all overstated. I also like the way there is just enough background to allow you to identify the Lilly pads.

One of the things that struck me about this image right away was focus which was well maintained throughout the flower. Based on my own attempts to this, it is not that easy. I would really like to know what the f/ stop was and the focal distance / lens used ...

Also, very good lighting and exposure - I looked at the histogram and it was very clear this image was exposed for highlights ...

    Good job.

Great shot, Mike. I like the off centering, and the colors work well with the purple against the green. The purple and green are also deep in tone and it works quite well IMHO. The only thing I do not care for is how the pedals closest to us are fading.

Where have you been? I don't think I've seen a post from you in over a year!?

Mike, I had heard you had a heart attack but didn't know the severity. Hopefully it didn't do much permanent damage (if that makes sense). Anyway hope things are going better now and welcome back.

Beautiful! One of the best flower shots I've seen in quite a while.....and there are zillions of em!
Love the fluidity and color of the bg, and the light and clarity of the flower is wonderful. I think there is something to what Liban is saying about the flower sitting a bit low in the frame. I'd be fine with it as it is though, but if you did adress it or experiment I think i'd go with adding a little more to the bottom with content aware scale.

I hope the health issues are behind you and there is more photography in the future....

Golly! Many thanks for the sticky! I am in Russia at the moment which is why I haven't acknowledged it - back home tomorrow night, hopefully with a few decent shots!
