    Old Produce Truck

Hi All, hope this finds you well!

I have recently been trying to shoot "inanimates" because I so frequently work with people (kids mostly) and uh, flowers. These inanimates are dang hard for me. I went out and did some farm houses and random objects. The lighting was pretty bad on most of the ones I posted. (The sun is intense out here in the valley).

I had forgotten about this one until today, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
This is a produce truck that sits infront of one of the biggest produce stands in the Valley. This truck just has so much character to me, that I thought it wouldn't be appropriate in full fledged color.

    Alterations:
Desaturated in PS, then recolored a touch to give it an old feel.
    Added border/frame.

Here is the original larger size so you can see better detail: (warning, its HUGE)

    Any thoughts?

Thanks for your time and comments, as always!

I actually like it. I didn't think I would because it is just an old truck, but the tones are great and it has an antique feel.

Nice pic, good all around. I agree with Sandi and think the color works well with this photo. I looked at the original (HUGE is an understatement) and at first was curious why you cropped off part of the shadow of the truck. In the end, though, I think you made the right decision. The division in the fencing was distracting. Good stuff!

TYVM. I surely didn't expect that shot to wind up in that little window, especially seeing the shot that preceded it...

Why do you post so huge in your gallery? It's hard to see your work as a whole because of scrolling.

    Hey,
I like this shot as well. I like the subject. This truck has character, for sure. As do most older vehicles, but I always loved these old trucks. I like the angle, compositon. The bg, although it is in focus, is not distracting in the least. I like the tone you added, too. definetely has the old feel you were going for. I thought at first that I felt the wheels and wheel well areas were too dark and had no detail to show, but the more i look, the more I realize that I like the blackened areas by the wheels and how it contrasts so great with the yellowish tones of the truck. . .no details needed. I think it could use a bit more space in front of and behind the truck, but it works well as it is. Great shot ( and good creative editing)

A nice shot and a nostalgic one for me since I drove a Divco milk truck for a year or so before going into the service. I like the color treatment you gave it. You are right about the old trucks having a lot of character.
When I am shooting cars/machinery and such I usually get in close to get the details and forms more emphasized. I think the details carry the character and you can contemplate the specific design elements more easily when not presented with the whole and surrounding distractions as well.

Thanks! I was really concerned about the wheels.
They are dark green (spraypainted I think) and totally do not match the truck in the original pic.
    Thanks for looking

    Chunk...
Well said! Thank you for your feedback. I like that crop you gave it to enhance the front grill. I played around with a crop on it for a while but wasn't getting it quite right.
    Thanks!

    Hey Kelly
Thanks for looking. Sorry I didnt realize it was SOOOO big. I resized it in the gallery again.
I just loose so much detail when resizing for the Critique board (640/640), so I included the original in the gallery if anyone wanted to view better detail on the truck. (The original is like 23x15 uncropped)

Great use of desaturation and colouring - suits the subject to a "T" and you have worked it well. I did not notice the darkness of the wheels until I read Gary's comment, but I don't think it detracts from the image. I do agree I would like to see just a little more image in front of the old van.

I like to see the detail in the larger image in your gallery - always a compromise to show the whole image at once or show more detail???? Great subject - would like to see more.

Irish, thank you for looking and your comments.
This truck is easily accessible, so I may just go back and take some more

    Thanks!
