i think the blue needs to be..... bluer to make it really stand out- if that's what you're going for.
    ok, stupid question........
i've never taken the time to learn how to keep just ONE park of the photo in color. i know about focal B/W. but how do you keep just one m'm in color?

    Re: B&W with color

No tricks and no photoshop. I only see in black and white, when my wife and daughter took a trip to NYC a few weeks back, they brought me a bag of black, white and gray M&M's. I was trying to help my 11 year old daughter try and understand light and shadow, and she decided to add the one blue to the mess. Her comment on the reverse of what I see, the blue is me, in the black and white world that I live in, or something like that, as she put it.

Well, I don't know if it is the way, but what I would do is... Select and copy the one item to an upper layer (in photoshop), and then convert the bottom, or background, layer to B&W. Then collapse the upper layer back onto the lower...

I like this image but I'd also like to see just the b/w without the blue. I love the tones
and depth that all the m&m's create; they look like polished stones. For my personal taste the blue popping out takes away from the deep depth and simple beauty of
the b/w. I understand though that you are making a statement with the blue and it
is fun too due to the nature of m/m's. But the b/w areas made me look at a common
object in a different way. I like that.

In PS open your image click the red, green or blue in channels and pick the best one for a B&W conversion.. Then put it back in RGB. Then open a channel mixer layer select that channel in the drop down and then click monochrome box. Then go to the channel mixer layer and use the erase tool and erase the area you want in color. The color layer is below the B&W and will show through.
