Got to take some quick snaps of a favorite photographer recently.

    Re: B

    1. apply some of that famous sharpening to her jacket (is it the "freaky detail" method?"?
    2. there seems to be some flare or haze right in the middle of the frame.
    3. The line (cable?) on the right could probably go, and it almost looks like some texture was placed over the green and red whatever it is, as the noise doesn't match the blue area. I'm not sure about that element.

I like the lighting, expression and the flow of her hair. I think the carousel would make for a very interesting setting.

    Re: B

    Thanks for the thoughts.

The haze can be removed; the cable (which I didn't even notice - thanks for pointing it out!) can be removed; the texture can be removed (I was kind of on the fence about that).

I'm not sure the "freaky detail method" would work here. Though maybe it would.

    Appreciate the feedback.

Well done. I think its a fine portrait and love the flow of her hair. Light on B's face is right.

Some things already pointed out are valid although i have no issue with the texture or fading area in middle.
Somehow I don't feel the carousel horse head is adding anything to this. I think a much tighter crop totally eliminating the horse will improve and also still allow for the carnival feeling/environment simply from the background.
Great shot, dude. Just my take on improving a bit.

    Re: B

An edit without the cable, texture, and haze. Tried adding contrast/sharpening to the jacket, but it wasn't really working.

Thanks for the feedback, Gary. I was just looking at it as a square crop, cropped in from the right... and yeah, I think you may be right. The only thing is that there's still some of the horse in there.

    How tight were you thinking?

Without the horse, there's no setting. What is she, a pole dancer? Of course not. And if you have any of the horse, you need all of it, if only to be sure of what it is.

the second one is much better, softening up the gibberish in the background.

Thanks. I see what you're saying. The lack of context could be a little misleading.

Thanks armando. Yeah... I know, me too. One eye was looking through the finder and the other was focused on the officer rapidly approaching. lol

We were pretty much chased from one location to the next.

Very nice picture again draymorton, the hair indeed looks amazing.

The only thing that i would like to point out is that for me, i get drawn to the big black center of the picture. That might also be the reason Gashpidy noted the horse could be cropped out. I think the dark center pulls me to the horses head. Maybe a hand on the pole in the darker spot would have helped.

Dont get me wrong though, im nitpicking.
Really like the atmosphere of this one.

    Re: B

Thanks a lot, ctn. Yeah, it's tough composition. That dark section demands your attention; you have to force your eye toward her.

The funny thing is that there was a hand on the pole that I cloned out, because it was too "clawlike" - there were three fingers wrapped around it in an angular way that was very unflattering. Should have noticed that on the spot.

So... I need to send this to the subject... and try not to make too much of an ass of myself in the process. Any other suggestions for patching things up so that this shot is as presentable as possible?

Does everyone agree that no texture on the right is the way to go?

    Thanks!
