    autumns' last
I finally made it out for some foliage last weekend. It was past "peak" season here but the lighting was nice. All comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks

They're both good shots, but I think that second one with the crisp reflection is terrific. Nice work.

I am quite fond of Autumn shots and I really like these but can't decide which one I like best...I can appreciate the subtleties and differences in each...

I can agree with Nina in that i can appreciate the differences in each shot, but I would say for sure I like the second one for the smooth water and the strong reflections of the trees and clouds. And lack of the tree in the foreground which somewhat bothers me in the first shot. Good work

I like the first better. I find the floating leaves in the 2nd distracting, and I also like the brighter trees in the second.

Is it just me or does anyone else find fall foliage shots hard to enjoy? I don't know how to explain it. Living on the coast of New Hampshire, yet within minutes of the mountains, I am witness to some of the most beautiful and vivid color swatches nature can provide. As a photographer, I find it incredibly frustrating that it's virtually impossible to capture on film -- particularly if it's simply a picture of the trees in a natural environment (lakes, fields, etc). I'm to the point where I don't really bother trying to capture it and instead just sit back and soak in the sights, sounds and smells of Autumn.

However, I must admit, when I see an image of deep green grass, contrasted with a bright white fence or house, enhanced by red, yellow and orange leaves, I tend to find it appealing.

I think fall is difficult to capture, period. It's all so breathtaking that the photos seem "blah" in comparison. I myself got rained in for 2 weeks during peak color, and with the "water problems" I've read about with the dRebel and siblings I'm not about to take it outside then. Even so, I find landscapes in general challenging, and what I have shot of fall this year just a bit less than what I thought I was seeing.

Having said all that, I love the color and focus. I haven't found anything like it around here! Outstanding photos of a hard (for me anyway) subject.

PS: Thems some pretty groovy colors for such an overcast day!! I like #2 the best, horizon, color, reflections and it seems a bit more in focus.

Thanks everyone for commenting. I agree that photos often do not do justice to the actual subject of a photo. I am constantly frustrated by not accomplishing my intent in a photo. This is especially challenging when that intent is simply (or not so simply) to show what I experienced. I also find that many shots I have taken and had no expectation for, have been a pleasant surprise. Maybe this unpredictability is a large part of the learning process.

The second shot was taken in the late afternoon right on the brink of dusk, hence the extra blues. I did not alter the saturation, however, it was underexposed by 1/3. My budding Photoshop skills leave much to be desired.

I had taken some time off from photography but recently returned to it with greater enthusiasm. I hope that by posting and viewing others work (a lot of talented photographers here!!!) I can learn and grow. Thanks again.
