    Newlyweds on a bridge

This is from a wedding a shot over the weekend with local "high profile" wedding photographer. It was at the long end of my 18-200 at 1/30 and on a tripod, but the IQ still seemed to suffer a bit.
    Have at it.

On my IPad it looks a little dark. I do like it even thought the couple seems far away. I would like to see it without the water mark.

Goth wedding maybe?, very dark for a wedding shot. If it is something other than wedding it would have been allright for me. I think their family members won't recognize them in this shot because they're too far. I wonder if you took closer shots of them to post.
I think weddings are classical eternal moments that should be dealt with in a more traditional way.

    Re: Newlyweds on a bridge

1/30 @ 200mm is probably a little too slow, even on a tripod. I think some of the other comments are valid, but shots like this are important, too. Sometimes they want to remember the place and the beauty of it. There will be lots of close-ups and other traditional shots, I would presume.

In terms of critique, I would also add that the composition and framing doesn't seem optimal to me. I would prefer more space over their heads and less of the water in front of them.

    Thanks for sharing.

I agree is dark and they are not recognizable , still, I like the image, probably can be used for a back cover of a photo book

IQ seems fine at this size, but you'll need a remote shutter and use mirror up, wait a couple of seconds then trigger the shot to get the best IQ

They get a little lost. I wish they were a bit brighter than the BG, especially the guy. But overall I like the composition. Looks like a real nice place to shoot.

    Re: Newlyweds on a bridge

    Nate -

Hmm. Interesting for sure. I would prefer a little more space above them, but that's a nitpick. I do see the IQ issue. His suit is fading into the background. Bride and groom shots are always subject to contrast issues. Too bad some sun wasn't breaking through the trees and selectively illuminating them.

What I would do, if you can pull it off, is select the groom and selectively brighten him up. This will not look right if he appears to have a halo around him, so you would have to select him and nothing else (this won't be too hard .. may take 10 min using your favorite wand tools). Another issue is that they're slightly smallish in the frame. This is a dilemma because I really like the surroundings. Just wish they stood out better against it. Perhaps this is where color may help, but making them contrast with the background. Anyway, very nice image and great idea.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'll have to try them out when I get a chance. I think the darkness was due to my effort to reduce all the competing elements in the image.

i like the composition. But I am not too sure about the toning. I have no suggestions on how to improve toning in BW, but it is seems abit too dark, or lacking in contrast between the different objects (such as bridge vs tree background vs the water).

My gut feel is that you need more space top and bottom or cut out the reflection completely. The couple seem too small in the overall composition. It is supposed to be a wedding photo not a landscape where as this to me is more about the landscape.

One thing that could changed it is to make it a portrait rather than landscape.

I agree that this one was not a great (even though all my FB buddies love it) and that it could use a lot, but...I think it being a wedding picture does offer room for other elements...such as the venue. They took the time to pick if for a reason, and there's plenty of them up close. This was taken while the main photog backed off for a second.
