    Artist and Her Gallery

My daughter with her display of drawings...she tapes them up on the wall herself...lol.

    Re: Artist and Her Gallery

What a sweet photograph! I like it overall but I wish that the drawings stood out a little more, some of them almost appear to be blank pieces of paper. Perhaps a little dark in some areas??

    Thanks for sharing

Nice idea but too dark and too much in the photo.

I suspect you will have a chance to do this again so I suggest you get only her (all of her including her feet) the wall and just 4 of the drawings (those shelf brackets are a real distraction). Use a longer exposure and a little fill flash and you will turn your good idea into a winner.

Thanks for the thoughts on this, MB & Herriot. A couple of the drawings are pencil (I think) which would account for not being able to see anything...and yes, I likely will try this one again to try to get it a little bit better lit.

    Thanks again!

    Lovely, just lovely.
If I were have to critique, this photo. Maybe move her gallery down to her view and let the gallery surround her.

Emily, I think the level of the drawings in comparison to your daughter, is perfect. There's something about her standing beneath them that gives the photograph a more dramatic presence. For me, the only thing stopping this from being even better is a) some of the drawings are a little light, and b) the candsticks at the top. Anyway, yeah, great angle and expression.

    Re: Artist and Her Gallery

Emily - Good capture. I like her expression. Is that her work? It works in a display sort of way, but I think it might be more personal if she was sitting down with the artwork in her hand, or something to that effect. And, if you could see more of what is on the papers. Just an idea.

I also think that the pic is slightly dark and that there may be a little too much in here. It is also a bit too symmetric on the sides for me. If you crop out the top row that would be a good start. Just do a few expts.

She's a very nice model btw.. looks like she's comfortable with you photographing her.

GB, Liz, Marc & rovowen...thanks for your thoughts on this as well. It's funny that several mention her expression...that's my favorite part of this. The display is very "her" too...right down to the little barrette on the edge of the highest drawing...lol.

Thank you again for the suggestions, I'll post again when I try to shoot this again.
