    Artificial Sun
shot this image at work normally looking up at 40 some feet high, but for this one i was sitting up in the crane seat getting a birds eye view of these powerful lights, from ground you can not look directly into them. question here is that could this image been taken better and how,? nikon d50 at f5.6 , 1/4 sec exposure, 98mm focal length, aperature prioty, and the white balance was on auto.

I guess it depends on what you want to show, i.e., part of the light, the entire light, the details of the light, the light and its environment, a group of lights, etc.?

Right now I think it's too tight.

I agree with AE. If you backed off a bit, it might give us some context. Can you make arrangements to get up that high again?

I like the vantage point you have access to. Here is what I think I would try from looking at this image.
I would set the camera on Manual setting and kep the aperture where you had it at about 5.6. Set the WB to tungsten.Using a wide angle I would shoot the main light you have in your image in a vertical format placing the light up in the top part of the frame as it is now and the rest of the scene from the wide angle would hopefully catch a glimpse of what is going on below the light. Rather than us always lookig up at the lights, we would be up with the lights looking down somewhat. Also, reduce your exposure a bit to bring some deeper ambience here. Expose more for the actual light so that everything else will be dark and only the immediate elements being hit by the light will be visible. it might be interesting. Of course, try different exposures, but do not rely on the camera to give you one. I would reduce from what you have here now.
I agree with others comments on how this is a bit tight right now, but I do like the vantage point

Did you use any type of flash to counteract the lights?

no i didn't use the flash on camera, just what available lighting being so bright and so many of them,i had my 55-200 mm vr lens on,and switched to my kit lens 18-55mm.

yes gary i will try what you mentioned, thanks for the input.

I really would like to see the area below the lamp here. Just seems too close to the edge for me. Otherwise, decent subject and a different type of environment than I usually see.
