A keeper for sure. Ithink the photo and your post processing of it is very good. I like the b&w version best. The color is also good but the color of the sky takes away something for me there.
I like this alot.

I'm liking the color although the B&W is nice too. One issue I do have is the experssion on the fellows face partially blocked by your brothers head. Perhaps a little spot blurring?
Personally, I think you've over done it on the post processing. Had this not been a photography forum I would have thought this was an illustration of some kind.
I'd like to see the original photograph, color and black and white, because it looks like a good photograph anyway..

“A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed, and is, thereby, a true manifestation of what one feels about life in its entirety...” - Ansel Adams
I really like the colour, fantastic, how did you get this effect? Did you use a lens to soften the edges or was it done through pp? I am very new to this and after lots of advice.
Thank you, the effect was done through a lot of PP (mainly changing the blending mode to hard light - my favorite thing to do!), and if your talking about the darkened edges, then that was done through PP if you talking about the fact that the people beside my brother are slightly out of focus, that's because they were at a different distance from my camera and it had a shallow DOF because of a mixture of how close i was, my focal length, and my aperture (f stop)
I like the color better but both are fantastic. I think the pp work is amazing - it has a very dreamy sort of feel which i think is perfect for this. when my brother was done with basic, he said it all happened so fast, and was all so strange and foreign that the ceremony and the few days after were almost like a dream. Amazing and inspirational work!!
Both definitely work IMO. Interesting effect though you might crop off just a little off the top.
Note that to me, the expressions of the soldiers is what makes the shot, not the effect or the color. Good capture of the moment.
