The White Monkey...

A favorite of mine, I shot this image at Brookfield Zoo in Chicago over the summer. I'm thinking about printing this out and framing it on my wall.

Very nice picture, masdog. Position of the monkey is great as well as the amount of branch at the bottom and the daigonal vine atop. The bg looks picturesque ( I'm sure it is a painted mural in the habitat.) There is a softness about the image, I'm thinking this was shot through glass? Nevertheless, it does not harm it too much and it would make a fine poster.

I'll bet it would look great on the wall. What's that blurred horizontal line in the background? The top of a fence?

Some of the bg is painted mural. I think there is a real/realistic looking tree back there also. It wasn't shot through glass, so I'm guessing the reason it looks soft is because I handheld it. I didn't want to oversharpen it too much.

The blurred line in the background is another vine. If you look over the monkey's right arm, you'll notice another primate (very blurred) hanging from it. Thanks for pointing the vine out, I didn't notice it until today.

I like it: the white monkey with the blue backgroud is a nice soothing image. It would look great in a study or an office. The faint line in the background does kind of give the image a "fake" look, though. Is there a way to reduce it's presence in PS or something berore printing it?

I'm not sure. I could probably try to clone it out, but I don't feel like doing that much tedious work.

That would really be an easy task to remove the horizontal vine in the bg. I too feel it would be worthwhile and help the image. Make your clone brush set to 50 or 40% hardness.Lookng at it again, the monkeys face looks fairly sharp which is important. Good job at hand held

gahspidy, I did manage to clone it out, but on my first try, the brush seemed too hard. I had to use a hardness setting of about 25% in order to get it to blend better. Thank you for the tip.

Interesting shot. I don't necessairly find the monkey that sharp and crisp, but the shot definately works for me. The top right hand corner is a little bright for me, but I think it still works.

Thanks for everyone's review of this photo. I removed the line and printed it out just before Christmas, and it is going to look great. It comes out perfectly sharp on paper. I have it framed, and when I get back to my apartment after the holidays, I'll be looking for the perfect place to hang it.

Its amazing how much an image can appear to change between the screen and the printer.
