Is this a candidate for a HDR image?

I took this photo yesterday and find that the bright light at the opening seems blown-out while the tunnel walls seem under exposed. I'm thinking of going back today and retaking a series of different exposures to produce a HDR image. Do you think the image can be improved in HDR?

Re: Is this a candidate for a HDR image?

Hey Joe, I have always loved shots like these looking out from within an enclosed space. The reflection is cool too here, although its actually so large its a bit distracting for me personally.

I don't really feel utilizing the HDR process will be much of a benefit for this particular shot. Reason being that there really is not much blowout in the light areas outside (the whitest spots are just blank, but not blown really) and the interior of the pipe does not look as if it has a lot of interesting texture.
I find the dark and mysterious nature of the inside pipe to be what works here, and if it were all exposed and revealed it would lose the mood.
If you shot this in RAW, you should be able to bring out lots of the inside and still keep the outside in check, from what I can tell with this image .
Does not hurt to try though. I usually shoot 5 exposures for my HDR trying to keep them about 1.5 - 2 stops apart.

HDR will get more details in the shadows.

Try just using the bottom half and flipping it 180.

I say No .. The black areas are good the way they are. It forces the viewer to look at the green and shape.

Way too soft in the vegetation area however - needs some sharpening. The reflection will be soft.

I agree with Gary and GB1. Next time try using a tripod and manual focus. Make sure the f/stop is deep enough to get it sharp from front to back. You will get sharper pictures using manual focus. Patience is your friend.lol

Well, even my closet could be a candidate for a HDR image

I think you should ask: "How would HDR help the image?"

If this is a raw image you can pull a lot out of the shadows without re-shooting. Try a faux HDR first.
