Another experiment in split toning
Just playing around with some creative post processing. Hadn't played with split toning in a while and this flower seemed like it might make for a good candidate.

Re: Another experiment in split toning
What is split toning? The flower looks vaguely monochrome. The greenish cast doesn't work for me.
Re: Another experiment in split toning
Basically it would be taking an image and adding a color to the highlights and a different color to the shadows. In this case I took a flower shot and converted to black and white. I then added a little yellow to the highlights and a little blue to the shadows.

Works for me. I wish there was a little more detail to the center black part though. But just a little..

A nice composition Aaron.
As I see it... very effective PP What color would this be in nature? As a flower so to speak.Curious I am.
You guys are so hi-tech. What ever happened to straight out of the camera. LOL just joking. I've been reading a great book on how to use Capture NX.It's 360 pages...When I feel confident...look out. Ha!
I'll be doing 80 shot composites, 11 shot triple beam HDR's...ect.... :O)
I know I'm a rookie,I admit it!
I enjoy your work as always.

Re: Another experiment in split toning
If my camera had a black and white mode I wouldn't have to process so much...LOL What can I say, I'm thoroughly intrigued by b&w photography and it's various techniques. I just picked up a couple books on b&w darkroom techniques and another on toning of b&w prints, hence the above experiment. Here's the original for comparison....

Sounds like my kind of book. But I shot B&W film all morning with a 40 year old camera with a metering system designed by Noah. I call it manual shutter priority and it's a full stop off, sometimes? I think? How hi tech is that?LOL
Re: Another experiment in split toning
I like the yellow version, but overall I find that there just isn't enough of the flower in focus to satisfy. Too little DOF, that is. If there was something on the petals that you were drawing attention to, it might work better.

Thanks GB :) I'll have to keep that in mind. I seem to have a bad habit of shooting wide open which I need to break myself of :o
