    Is the tree too much?

    The one on the left or the flowering one?
    Either way, I don't think its too much. I do wonder what it would like pulled back a bit so the left tree wasn't up against the border but that's just a curiousity on my part.
    I've thoroughly been impressed with all your Arlington photos.

    The one in the back is the one I was referring to. That shot was as far back as I could go without getting the fence in the foreground. The tree on the left was an intentional attempt to capture the scene framed as I saw it -- it was like this little nook of beauty in an already beautiful place.

    Here's a shot of the same scene but from the "left" side of it.

    Hmmm.

    Arlington is a great place to shoot, no doubt. It has a formality and power unto its own.

    "Is the tree too much?" Maybe.. It might have been more harmonious without the tree. But I think what it really needs is more brightness; seems subdued as is. Easy to adjust.

    The second shot, I think it is stronger compostionally, but it seems fuzzy to me. Was that intentional? Almost seems like a softening filter was used, but you didn't mention using one. Maybe I need glasses..

    Thanks for the input.

    I did punch up the brightness a few ticks. I had a wierd halo artifact on some of the stones in the foreground so I backed off a bit and then shopped it out. I had the hood on the lens but I guess there was some errant sun hitting the glass. I also had to burn the sides of some of the stones too. I'll go back and play around with the levels.

    The second shot has no processing whatsoever. It was a reference shot of sorts. The fuzziness was from me shooting while walking. I took the shot, looked at it and didn't really like the scene so I moved on without taking a more composed shot. Most of the time, what I see in my mind bears little resemblence to what actually shows up on the memory card.

    The first shot is very good indeed and I feel there is nothing superfluous in the composition.
    Very pleasant to look at.
