Another Angle of Brit

Another of Brit, a model I shot last August. Not sure on the foreshortening here,.. definitely crunched up a bit, artsy maybe.

GB I know nothing about studio lighting but it does look dark in areas. I also think the pose looks awkward. Her head is cocked to far and the angle makes her rear end look to big.

Yeah it was sort of an artsy pose. What hurts it though, I think, is that her face and eyes are too obscured. Anyway,

I thinkk Greg is right, the exposure could be pumped up 1/2 to 1 EV, but I like the pose and the overall lighting. The face is the brightest part of the shot which draws you in, but this is a geometric, and on that level it works for me. You have enough angle that I don't see the foreshortening as an issue. :)

You can't judge what the exposure should be there are so many variables lol. The shot to me looks compressed alot. The pose is ok makes me feel sad like something is bothering her.

seems to me that either the flash had a warming gel or you played with the colors in PP,
skin tones are warmer on her arms than on her legs and hands

This one took a bit of post processing. It was too dark and there was a lot of distracting stuff in the scene needing removal. Also, when I lightened it, a lot of grain appeared on her that wasn't very flattering. To hide that and the 'less-than-perfect' right shadow removal job I did (PS' content aware fill failed miserably on this one...) I had to blur the background and also apply an effect on her to smooth out the grain. I post the original here, resized to 800 pixels, for you to see.

Jet, I just lightened up the image and am also posting that. I hope it's better. Part of the problem was my (also) less-than-perfect arrangement of the studio lighting :( ... seemed to cause a lot of light dropoff on the sides, not to mention that annoying shadow on the right!

I like it better, brighter. While you may not think the lighting is optimal, I happen to prefer the drama created by setting the lights closer, for faster falloff!

It's certainly open to personal preference but, you really can tell when you're in the right ballpark by learning to interpret your histogram on the fly.

I love the red in her hair, the scarf, the mask. Nice image

Some warming of skin tone on thighs might be more flattering.

Thanks Mark, Jet, Anbesol. Yeah, shadows are in, and sharp dropoff does look dramatic. The histogram glances sounds like good advice. But I really should have brought my flash meter, which I forgot (somehow those don't seem as important now that we can see our pix immediately).

Odd that she's warmer on her upper body than on her thighs. Looks like their more in shadow, but still, the color should be the same.
