    Allison & Alyshia

    Hey guys!

Did some photos for a couple friends yesterday, Just some buddy portraits I guess lol
The lighting was super harsh, Tried to grab the best shot's I could. They ended up being super happy with the way they turned out, So im glad they loved them.

Used the new EF 85mm f/1.8 for these, What do you think of them?
Any tips for shooting in harsh sunlight like in these shots?

You caught good moments and that's the most important thing. The way to deal with the light is to try to plan it in advance. If you are setting a time, go for later in the day. If you have to shoot in harsh light, find your a good spot in some diffussed shadow. I spent a lot of time ignoring where the light was coming from and trying to make my camera overcome it, but now I walk myself and my models around as needed. I don't always get it right, but I avoid spots that I know will produce bad results.

That said, I don't think your lighting was all that horrible. The images are good now -- I especially like #3 -- and can get better with some post processing.

Typically the biggest problem with Harsh light, is the frown on the models' faces... you don't have that here... Overall the image are fine, I agree that you caught good moments...

However, to answer your question, if you want to shoot in harsh light, and it's causing high contrast, with shadowy areas, then the best thing to keep with you is a reflector... Alternatively, why not play around with the contrast that can be created?

Preferably however, try not to shoot in harsh light... dusk will be good if you're shooting friends, since rare are they who would like to be up and ready at dawn.

    Nice work though!
