All Hopped Up

Well another try...

Haha, this one made me chuckle a bit. Frogs are such silly looking creatures. Speaking of, we have a member on the board named 'Frog', a cool guy. But I haven't seen him around for a bit.

Anyway, I really like how you captured the frog here, and the textures and colors are very pleasing. I think the background and focus transition does not contribute to its qualities. I think the background is a little too much, and the focus transition isn't dramatic enough to merit the large scene. If it were a creamier blend of out of focus colors, that may play favorably by drawing more attention to teh frog.

I llike the composition, it gives me the feeling that the frog doesn't like what's going on on the right side. he's sorta looking away and clinging on to avoid looking back.

also the dof is good, the colour of the frog are nice and vibrant but not too much. overall very good.

Hey Anbesol, thanks for the comment. When you say creamier do you mean warmer colors? I had to tone down the bg because that leaf and some of the foliage was just as bright as he was and was having to compete with it. Lemme now what you think. Thanks again.
Thank you both armando and leels, I'll try downsizing it a tad, see how that works. Tried free transforming to make him take up more of the shot and was kind of pleased with the results...we'll see.

by "creamier" I meant softer, less focus less detail. Could be done either by changing the angle of the camera or opening up the aperture.

*edit - for that matter it could also be done in photoshop, if you work with layers anyway.

I like the frogs coloration and sharp eye. DOF is a bit too narrow for me. Would have liked to see the frogs entire body in sharper focus, with that you would pick up more of the frogs skin texture. Lots of dead space to the right and almost none to the left of your subject. I like to get some idea of where the frog is going and not so much of where it's been.

Ed, thanks for your comment. Yeah I took this not long after actually getting the camera (Canon 40D) itself so was still learning my way around it. I distinctly remember reading about the rule of thirds and so tried experimenting with that and of course everything was on auto lol. Check out Tree Frog, he has better texture. I really appreciate your feedback :)
