For me, a successful street photo captures a slice of life. Here you've got a good composition, decent exposure(though too dark at the ceiling fans), but not much else happening in the frame to draw much interest from the viewer. A person walking down the porch, or an old timer sitting on one of the benches, reading a newspaper, are examples...to me, of how this could turn into a good street photo. You've got a nice stage, now you need some actors to provide some life in the frame.

You've got a really good eye, so don't be so hard on yourself. We all have plenty to learn unless we're one of the Galen Rowell's or Joseph Sudek's of the world...

I really like this composition a lot. There isn't a lot happening there, but you've made it interesting just by using a good angle and framing. The exposure is also very good. Wide range of tones from inky blacks to subtle off-whites. Nice job.

Thanks guys... I was just reading a post on the view finder board that strikes a chord in me- about what it takes to get those "great" shots. Beyond the right equipment, I expect that it will take lots of practice, and more helpful advice from people like you! I really do appreciate it...

    Well put Charles...

I couldn't have said it better, than Charles..
To me, "street" implies people, be it littlerally or figuratively. There has got to be a human element, a shadow, would do, but of course a person doing something is ideal.

As it is, this an fine photograph, it has a lot going for it, it has plenty of line, from the benches to the lines in the ground. Both of which and the fans create repeition which is another good compositional element.

So practice, practice, pracitice and keep posting here! We are here for you!.
