    Abandoned...

Walking home from work yesterday I spotted this forgotten and abandoned flag among some shrubs. It was across the street from a funeral home were the service for a fallen soldier from Iraq took place a couple of weeks ago. I think it might have been left there at that time. That also helped me decide on a title. The light was cooperating so I grabbed a quick image. I have been spending most of my time over at the gallery the last few months and haven't been here on the critique forum nearly enough. Just like to get your opinion on this one. Thanks.

    Hmmm?
Are you making a political statement?
It looks like there might have been snow on the bush and maybe the flag was upright until snow melted and it fell through.
I like the image and just wish the flag wasn't folded so

    Re: Abandoned...

OT, the lighting is good on the flag and the subject stands out nicely from the hedge. I think frog has a good thought about what may have become of the flag in that it was stuck in the snow on the hedge and then sunk into the hedge when the snow melted. Nonetheless, aside from feeling a bit stung by the title I think the image is good. Glad to see you over here, as I know your gallery can consume your time like nothing else.

    Re: Abandoned...

Yes frog your right I think that is exactly what happened. And I may be making a small political statement as well. I just hope that the soldier that lost his life is not forgotten and those still there are not abandoned as this flag seemed to be.

As for the folds in the flag I tend not to disturb an object or scene when I find it. This is how it was and this is how I photographed it. I try not to set up the image unless I state that it is a staged photograph.

And Brent and Gary it's good to be back over here. I tend to hibernate in the winter and not get out with the camera nearly enough. I hope that in the coming weeks and months that I will have more photos I deem worthy of posting here on the critique forum.

Nice capture OT, perfectly framed and wonderful color. It's always nice to see a picture with so much meaning, sometimes a camera can say a lot...
