86th&3rd
this is the view out of my window in my living room.....I stare out at it very often and I figured I should capture this image as a reminder for when I move out. I used the HDR technique just so I could get the color in the sky, and detail in the street. The end result was over-saturated, so I actually desaturated it to finish. While the colors to seem a little intense, they are actually very close to the natural colors when I shot this. I wanted to utilize HDR, but not to the extent that it looked like a cartoon or a painting. Comments welcome.

Re: 86th&3rd
I have never used HDR but I know a little bit from reading here and there... It looks pretty good to me, minus the ghost cars :) I love HDR pics for some reason!

Re: 86th&3rd
Quite interesting , I looked at the photo for a good while
the hdr is well done, and you captured the right exposures
Something a bit puzzling are the phantoms of buildings on top of another one across the street.
In general the street and buildings look like they need a bit more contrast

Re: 86th&3rd
I really like HDR effects. This is very drammatic.

Re: 86th&3rd
very cool application of it.

yeah, I was wondering if someone would catch that....the left side of the sky was a weird color gray, so I cloned a bit, and must have caught the top of the building to the right...
Also, I cloned out a huge lightpost in the middle of the pic, I think I did a pretty good job with that...

Re: 86th&3rd
you did a very good job cloning the light post,
really looking for something wrong , the back of the delivery truck looks to long
I do like the phantom cars :)

Re: 86th&3rd
thanks....I do kind of like the ghost cars too...I could get rid of them, but it adds some mystery, for lack of a better term.

Re: 86th&3rd
Sorry but something isn't right here. The tones or colors or contrast or something is off.
The more I look, the more I think it is the contrast. I've done some hdr and prefer for it to look real, that is seeing the dynamic range the human eye sees as compared to the camera.
This doesn't look like what my eye would see.
But, of course, you are there and can be a better judge of that than I.

Re: 86th&3rd
What the hell do you mean MINUS the ghost cars? More ghost cars I say. Clearly this is the hinterlands. Ghost cars are what give those drunken weekend evenings meaning. Without those all there is will be the local newspaper, the high school football team, and maybe a two-headed calf. No. The ghost cars are essential.
This is a very nice shot. Anyone tells you otherwise, you challenge them to a duel.

Re: 86th&3rd
Yes, the colors are surreal, but they are much closer than they were when I did the original HDR conversion. I desaturated about -20 on photoshop. After looking at it again, I agree with the contrast...I added a little more, and bumped up the definition.

Re: 86th&3rd
or maybe B&W would be better ....
-
Re: 86th&3rd
I like the last one (before the B&W conversion). I have no idea what all this HDR is but it looks nice. I say frame it and hang it in your need hallway!

Re: 86th&3rd
I think the contrast and definition helped a lot.

Re: 86th&3rd
Yes I prefer post #11, my first impression before looking down was that it needed more contrast. Think you nailed it in the edited version.
-
Re: 86th&3rd
it looks much better with the added contrast
in the b&w version you fixed the phantom on the roof, maybe it can be done in the color version ?
-
Re: 86th&3rd
yes, I am going to go back and fix that on the original before I print it....I kind of wish it could pass for another building in the distance, and chalk up the "phantom" effect to atmospheric perspective ;) I think it kind of looks cool
