who uses smugmug, and why should I?
Title sums it up. I'm also curious how the actually money making works, as in what percentage of they selling prices is profit.

I have had a SmugMug site for a couple of years. In a Pro account you set the prices and they keep 15% of what you set the price at you get 85% and they take care of the order, printing, and shipping. If you have one of the other accounts the item will sell for the actual cost without markup and there is no profit. If you decide to sign up use this my email jeffimpeyphotos@bellsouth.net at sign up to get $5.00 off and also help me out on my account. You can take a look at my site and see what you think. I backed mine down from the Pro Account when I renewed it this year. My site is below in my signature. You can choose all the colors and layout to customize it to look like you want it to. If you have any more questions, just ask, Jeff

I haven't signed up for either but am trying to decide between SmugMug and Pictage. Any pros and cons about the two to help me make my decision would be appreciated.

I have been using SmugMug since the start of football season to market my sports images. So far I am very pleased with their service and the presentation of my images. I do have the Pro account that paid for it self the first couple of weeks that I had images on SmugMug. It takes promoting your work and the site to get results. Here is the link to my site. I have been using smugmug for years and couldn't be more pleased. My site isn't anything special, but it does the job and I get sales.

I have to say one of the best parts of smugmug is the support I get and the great customer service my customers get. I love how they deal with my clients and how so much of that pressure is taken off of me.

Mine is mostly football. I keep my portraits hidden or galleries locked for clients.
