Shepard Fairey, the AP & Mannie Garcia

Has anyone else been following the saga between Shepard Fairey, the AP and Mannie Garcia over the rights of the photo used to create the Obama Hope & Progress posters? It's turning into a very interesting saga that all photographers, and artists should be interested in.

Only what I've seen on tv news but have been wondering about all the "memorabilia" junk out there and how it is that I have to get a release from anyone to publish their photo and anybody can make money off of Barak or any other celebrity.

I'm with AP on this one.
If you're an artist you should be able to do something other than paint from a picture.
