Photographic Rates

I recently took a my first photographic job for a small girls clothing business. I am required to take photographs of their clothing as well as prepare the pictures for their online store. Im not sure of what to ask per photograph. I recently took a look at their website, and to my astonishment, they charge no less then $120 per shirt. Am i wrong to ask $5-10 dollars per photograph, considering the entire project is about 50-100 shots?

Sounds reasonable, but I am not a professional photographer. I think if you use good lighting and get pix that the ordinary Joe can't with a point-and-shoot that it will be justified. You might want to take one good shot in with you beforehand...

I would figure out by the time it's going to take you. What do you think you should get per hour and how much time will it take you to shoot each image/shirt? Also, is there any post-processing required? I charge one rate for photography and another for post-processing. But I definitely charge for the computer work. A lot of the time it ends up being more time-consuming than the actual photography. Is there anything special about the shirts? Is there anything special about how they want them photographed?

Im thinking 5 dollars per photo, with a 5 dollar computer processing charge.

Are you looking to do portrait work?

I've got a children's boutique that I work with, any photos they need I do for free, and give them files for free. However, I've got 24x30's up across the top of their walls, and business cards in the store. The advertising that it's given me has made me way more than $10 a photo.

And this is a pretty high end children's store.

I'm glad you posted this. I might be shooting several properties for a local construction company. They will be displaying the shots exactly as your boutique will be. I wasn't sure how to assemble my bid, and this is great advice.
