    Business Card Feedback?

I started working on a new business card this weekend. A new business card is one of my stated goals for this year. Anyway, before I pull the trigger I wanted to get some feedback. What should I change?

I know it should have my Web site address on it. Building a Web site is one of my goals, too

So this will be a short run. I'll get more printed when the Web site is done.

Nice card PJ. Pretty straightforward and uncluttered. I've been working on a couple myself.

Thanks. You don't have any suggestions? Nothing you'd change? I'm not sure about the centered text at the top. It feels - well - too centered.

I will probably put a photo on the back, too. I'll be getting them done at www.vistaprint.com

    Re: Business Card Feedback?

I like the centered text. Maybe offset the biker a little? Maybe a whole different picture? Hard to say...as you know, some folks prefer the k.i.s.s. approach, some like the razzle-dazzle. Since it's your business card, you'll have to go with what you feel is the one that tells the person you're giving it to what you're about.

Here's what I'm handing out at the ballpark this year: It's nothing more than a card with urls to my sites. I got a lot of requests for my website url last summer, so I just thought this would be a whole lot simpler.

    Comment and Question....

I think this is a good looking card John. It is simple and to the point. You should consider having this graphic on the home page of your site.

So does this mean a site is forth coming? You have been talking about that for a long time.

I was thinking to arch the styles around the biker and keep your name centered as is...but to repeat what swm says...It's your card, and it should portray who YOU are.

    Hi John,

I really like the card layout and design. Simple, effective.

My only suggestion is the cyclist in the air. He seems compressed and he doesn't look natural. Did you use a layer and make the image a little smaller to fit the card?

Not a big deal, but I did notice it.

    Re: Business Card Feedback?

No mention of photographyreview.com? Or is this for entirely separate work?

I'd suggest a mailing address or stacked contact info such as:

    photojohn@emailaddy. com
    www.therealphotojohn. com
    telephone #
    cell phone #

I receive most of my inquiries from business cards via telephone contact initially and not email. The follow up though is mostly via email for orders. I maintain several email addy's to separate types of work. The mailing address is often good for request for quotes. Contracts need to go somewhere. A FAX number is also handy (or the +code to turn on the FAX machine).

Another consideration is if you are going to have matching letterhead to send out invoices and other communications. Not everyone is fully electronic amazingly enough!

A logo/photo on one side and plain lettering on the other can make a sharp card that covers a multitude of purposes.

It's your card, you can always make a different one next week. Good luck !!

    Re: Business Card Feedback?

Nice card, John. The image seems a little compressed to me, also. I like the idea of arching the text over/around the image. Either that, or simply have the image with the text at the bottom on the front, then your name and other contact info on the back.

As most everyone had said, it is all up to what you want the card to look like. I will have to get mine on here and see what everyone thinks about it.

    Re: Business Card Feedback?

I wouldn't arch the text. If you didnt' have a photo on there, then maybe, but I'd stick with the way you have it now.

If anything, you could have the photojohn on the front, with the image (which does look odd) and then the email address and phone number. On the back, you could put the action outdoor product stuff, perhaps a photo as well. Once you have a website, I would switch the email address out for the web address. I would not add faxes and other phone numbers or addresses. That's going to clutter it up.

I wouldn't make any big changes from this.

    Re: Business Card Feedback?

Also, when you print, you might want to go with the uv coating as well, it makes everthing shiny and pretty, and less "home printer"ish. But that's only if you go with a photo. If you don't use a photo, then regular without the uv is good too.

I go back and forth on this frequently. That's why I only order 100 at a time. I change my mind every other week.

If that's the exact layout of the file that you are going to upload, the top is going to get really close to, if not cut into, the photojohn part. You loose a tiny bit when they print it.

I like the layout. Clean, uncluttered, to the point. Personally, I'd add a little more color to make it more eyecatching. Just my humble opinion.

John, I like it but think maybe it needs some more color, like a little bit of red somewhere to make it pop a bit more. my .02

I don't think the rule of thirds applied to business cards
But it is a little blue and cold.

I know the image is kinda logo-ish, but I'd think you want want one of your best photos on there. Print the full color photo on one side with a littel url in the lower corner and put your contat info and logo on the other side.

What kind of "not so good things" have you been reading? I have some Mtbr.com/RoadbikeREVIEW.com cards that we had made there and they're beautiful. I'll take a look at overnightprints.com, too.

    Thanks!

I'm going to put a full-color photo on the back. I want the front to be all business. Hence the logo-ish image.

creasing in cards, color cast, that sort of thing. But when I went back to double check, they said the same thing about overnightprints.

I guess it's a luck of the draw type thing.
