Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Now in stock at Amazon!

I just received an email from Amazon that this lens is now in stock! I need to save my money... This lens goes for $699.99

I'm excited about this lens, too. Pop Photo said it tested better than the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L for image quality. But I was mostly excited because I thought it was going to be a smaller, lighter alternative to my Canon 70-200 f/2.8L. I just compared stats and that's not the case. The Tamron actually appears to be slightly larger and heavier than the Canon. So I guess it's not going to replace my current lens. But for anyone in the market for a pro 70-200 zoom, at $700, this lens is a steal!

It also appears the Sigma version with HSM is also out today for the same money...I think I will go with the Sigma since I also have the matching TC's and the HSM of course.

Hmm... Tough choice. I've been pleased with both Sigma and Tamron...

One thing I read about the Tamron that I liked was that the lens did NOT extend to zoom. i wonder if the Sigma is the same?

Have any of you purchased either of these lens yet? I noticed that bot the Sigma and Tamron are currently out of stock.

I found the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 HSM (Pentax) at 47st. Photo for $749.95, but I am concern if they sell grey market lens. The store reviews seem about average. Does anyone have personal experience with them and know of anyone that purchased from them?

Just received mine and the Sigma does not extend to zoom either...very nice lens. i will post pictures later

Thanks, I haven't been able to shoot as much as I would like. I have been slammed with end of the year projects at work, but hopefully January will be better.
